Chapter 5 - The War at the DocksThe rain had turned into a howling storm over the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Inside Warehouse 14, halogen floodlights hummed overhead, casting a harsh, yellow glare across rows of rusted shipping containers. Thirty armed men stood in a wide circle, representing the major crime families of the city.

In the center of the floor stood Sal Moretti—a fat, arrogant man in an alligator-skin coat, surrounded by four heavy enforcers.

Opposite him, standing completely alone in the center of the ring, was Leo Castiglione.

“You broke treaty, Castiglione!” Sal roared, his voice echoing off the corrugated steel walls. “5th Street is Moretti territory! You put my collector in the hospital and threatened my business over some cheap neighborhood whore!”

The word had barely left Sal’s mouth when a sharp, deafening CRACK shattered the air.

Leo hadn't drawn a gun. He had closed the twenty-foot distance between them in a fraction of a second, his heavy fist striking Sal squarely across the jaw, sending the rival boss crashing backward onto the concrete floor, spitting teeth and blood.

The warehouse erupted into chaos. Guns were drawn instantly, safety catches clicking across the room as thirty men aimed weapons at one another.

“Hold your fire!” Franco screamed from the perimeter, his men stepping forward with heavy automatic rifles locked and loaded.

Sal scrambled backward on his hands and knees, clutching his broken jaw, staring up at Leo with wide, terrifying eyes.

Leo stood over him, towering like an judgment angel in the harsh glare of the floodlights. He reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a thick manila folder—the ledger of Sal Moretti’s predatory lending network across the city.

“This isn't about territory, Sal,” Leo said, his voice ringing across the silent warehouse like thunder. “This is about honor. You’ve been bleeding working families, using illegal extortion tactics that bring federal heat onto every family sitting in this room.”

Leo tossed the ledger onto Sal’s bloody chest.

The older bosses in the circle looked down at the documents, dark murmurs rippling through the crowd. In their world, violence was a tool of business—but predatory extortion that drew federal task forces was a death sentence for everyone.

“Sal Moretti is stripped of his territory,” Old Man Donati—the senior statesman of the Five Families—announced, stepping forward from the shadows. “His loan sharking accounts are dissolved. Effective immediately.”

Sal gasped, blood spilling from his lips. “You can’t do this! You can’t take my territory over a maid!”

Leo leaned down, grabbing Sal by his alligator-skin lapels and pulling him up until their faces were inches apart.

“If you ever speak her name again, Sal,” Leo whispered, his voice turning the blood in everyone’s veins to ice, “I won't just take your territory. I’ll take your breath.”

Leo shoved him back onto the floor, turned his back on the rival boss, and walked out of the warehouse into the pouring rain.

He didn't look back once.
