Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

Four weeks later, the private maternity ward at St. Jude’s Hospital was locked down entirely. Not by armed guards or syndicate enforcers, but by the quiet, peaceful presence of a family starting over.
Inside the quiet recovery room, the rhythmic hum of the monitor blended with the gentle patter of rain against the windowpane.
Claire sat propped up against the hospital pillows, her face glowing with a soft, radiant warmth. Cradled safely in her arms was a tiny, perfect newborn boy with a full head of dark hair and tiny fingers wrapped tightly around her thumb.
The door clicked open softly.
Vincent stepped into the room. He wasn't wearing his usual charcoal overcoat or tailored suit; he wore a simple black button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up, looking every bit a proud, exhausted father rather than a feared underworld boss. In his hands, he carried a simple bouquet of wildflowers he had personally picked from the estate gardens that morning.
He walked over to the bedside, his steps careful and hesitant, as if afraid the moment might vanish if he moved too quickly.
"How are they doing?" Vincent asked quietly, his voice thick with emotion.
"They are doing perfectly," Claire smiled, looking down at the baby before lifting her gaze to meet Vincent's. "Do you want to hold him?"
Vincent swallowed hard, his hands trembling slightly—not from fear of an enemy's bullet, but from the overwhelming weight of love he felt in his chest. He reached out, gently scooping the small bundle into his arms.
The baby shifted against Vincent’s chest, letting out a tiny sigh before settling peacefully.
Vincent looked down at the tiny face, tracing the soft curve of the baby’s cheek with the tip of his finger. A single tear slipped down Vincent’s rugged cheek, washing away the final remnants of the cold, ruthless man he used to be.

"Welcome home, little one," Vincent whispered, his voice cracking with emotion.
Claire reached out, placing her hand over Vincent's arm, leaning her head gently against his shoulder. The empire he had built through fear and blood no longer mattered; the only legacy that mattered was right here, safe in their arms. Outside, the storm had finally cleared, leaving behind a brilliant, unbroken horizon.
