Chapter 6 - Booth SevenOne year later.

The grand reopening of La Vela was the most anticipated event of the season. The restaurant had been completely renovated—its dark, intimidating atmosphere transformed into an elegant, warm sanctuary of golden lights, fresh white roses, and world-class culinary art.

Downstairs in the private dining room, music played softly as high-society guests and city dignitaries enjoyed their evening.

At 11:00 p.m., the private elevator opened.

Adrien Varelli walked into the dining room, dressed in a sharp navy suit, looking every bit the sovereign king of the city.

Walking beside him, holding his hand, was Lena Reyes-Varelli.

She looked stunning in a floor-length white silk dress, a brilliant diamond engagement ring sparkling on her left hand. Her grandmother, Rosa, sat at a VIP table near the front, looking healthy and joyous, chatting happily with Carla and the kitchen staff.

Adrien led Lena toward the back corner of the restaurant.

Booth Seven.

The low amber lamp shone down on the dark leather booth, casting a warm, inviting glow over the polished table.

However, the layout of Booth Seven had changed.

The table was no longer set for one. It was permanently set for two.

And the chair opposite the booth—the famous chair that had once been placed with mathematical cruelty fourteen inches from the edge—had been moved.

It now sat comfortably attached to the table, merged into a custom double-seating booth designed for two people to sit side by side.

Adrien slid into the booth first, pulling Lena down beside him. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close to his side as the waiter brought two glasses of vintage Italian wine.

"Do you remember the first time I saw you here?" Adrien asked softly, clinking his glass against hers.

"How could I forget?" Lena laughed gently, leaning her head against his shoulder. "You stood over me like a giant gray cloud and told me I was fired for moving your chair three inches."

"I was a fool," Adrien admitted, kissing her temple. "I thought order came from numbers and silence. I didn't know that the best decision of my life would happen because a tired waitress fell asleep in my seat."

Lena looked around the beautiful, thriving restaurant, then up at the man who had turned her desperate struggle into a life of boundless love and luxury.

"I guess it wasn't the worst decision of my life after all," Lena smiled, raising her chin to kiss his lips.

Adrien held her tight, his hand resting over hers on the leather booth.

"No, liebling," Adrien whispered against her lips as the music swelled around them. "It was the beginning of our empire."
