Adrian sat in his usual booth, but he wasn't alone. Mara sat across from him, sipping a glass of wine. The room was bustling, the music was lively, and for the first time in three years, the club felt like a home.
Adrian reached across the table and took her hand. "You know, people are starting to ask when the song is coming back."
Mara smiled, a soft, genuine look that reached her eyes. "Maybe when the singer is ready."
"You saved me, Mara," Adrian said, his voice low and sincere. "I was dead inside. You brought me back."
"You were always there, Adrian," she replied. "You just needed someone to remind you."
Adrian stood up and leaned down, kissing her softly. It was a promise—of a life, of peace, and of a future that had no ghosts.
As the jazz quartet began to play a slow, romantic ballad, Adrian turned toward the stage and signaled the pianist. The music shifted, fading into that familiar, mournful melody.
