Chapter 6 - The EpilogueSix months later, the grounds of the Lake Forest estate were alive with the vibrant green of late spring.

The frozen shoreline of Lake Michigan had thawed into deep, sparkling blue waters, and the cherry blossoms along the private drive were in full bloom.

Inside the east wing study, the double doors stood wide open to let in the warm May breeze.

Julian Vale sat by the south window, a sleek, modern laptop resting on his lap instead of the old leather ledger. His fingers flew across the keyboard with steady, confident speed, drafting the final chapter of a novel that was already generating massive buzz among New York publishing houses under a pen name he and Grace had chosen together.

Down the hall in the main kitchen, the air smelled of fresh-brewed artisanal roast, vanilla, and warm pastries.

Grace Miller stood at the center island wearing a light summer linen dress, her full figure carrying an effortless, radiant grace that made the old service uniform feel like a distant memory. She wasn't rushing. She was humming softly as she arranged a fresh bouquet of yellow daisies in a crystal vase.

Heavy, familiar footsteps approached behind her.

Dominic wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, pressing a gentle kiss to the nape of her neck. He smelled of cedarwood, morning air, and the clean soap he used after his morning run through the estate gardens.

"You're going to spoil him," Dominic murmured against her skin, glancing toward the hallway leading to Julian's study. "He’s had three cups of coffee and a cinnamon roll before nine o'clock."

"He's working hard," Grace smiled, leaning back against Dominic’s chest and resting her hands over his forearms. "And besides, he earned it. The book hits shelves nationwide next Tuesday."

Dominic rested his chin on her shoulder, looking out the open window toward the sparkling lake. "Who would have thought? The most feared syndicate boss in Chicago, and his brother the fugitive-exposing novelist, both completely wrapped around the finger of a south-side housekeeper."

Grace turned around in his arms, wrapping her arms loosely around his neck, a playful smile playing on her lips.

"Not a housekeeper, Dominic," she corrected softly, rising onto her tiptoes to press her lips against his. "Partner."

Dominic pulled her closer, deepening the kiss as the warm spring breeze swept through the kitchen, carrying the scent of blooming flowers and a future neither of them had ever expected to find.

Down the hall, Julian clicked Save on his manuscript, closed the laptop screen, and looked out the window at the lake.

For seven years, his world had been defined by silence, shadows, and walls of his own making. Now, the house was filled with the sound of laughter, footsteps, and life.

He smiled, picked up his coffee cup, and took a long, steady sip.

The story was finally finished. And the best part was, they were only just getting started.
