Chapter 5 - The Reckoning

At 8:00 PM, the grand ballroom of the Vale Estate in Long Island was packed with thirty syndicate elders, capos, and high-level corporate directors for the annual Vale Holdings Emergency Board Meeting.

At the center of the massive oak table sat Julian Vance—a seventy-year-old man with silver hair, a sharp pinstripe suit, and an air of aristocratic untouchability. He was smiling pleasantly, chatting with two city council members, entirely confident that his strike team at the hospital had cleared away his final problem.

Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the ballroom were thrown open.

Dominic Vale walked into the room. He wore a tailored dark suit, his expression cold and majestic. Beside him, dressed in an exquisite navy silk gown that highlighted her striking beauty and quiet grace, walked Nora Bennett.

In her hand, she carried a silver flash drive—the decrypted contents of Arthur Bennett’s private deposit box, extracted two hours prior.

The chatter in the ballroom died instantly. Julian Vance’s smile froze, his eyes widening in absolute horror as he saw Nora walking side-by-side with the Don.

“What is the meaning of this intrusion, Dominic?” Julian demanded, standing up, trying to maintain his calm authority. “This is a closed board meeting!”

“Sit down, Julian,” Dominic commanded, his baritone voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings like thunder.

Dominic took his seat at the head of the long table, while Nora stood proudly at his right hand.

“Eleven years ago,” Dominic announced, looking around at the thirty stunned elders, “my father’s trusted partner, Arthur Bennett, was murdered, and forty million dollars vanished from our corporate accounts. For a decade, we were told Arthur was a traitor who stole from the family.”

Dominic nodded to Marco, who plugged the silver flash drive into the boardroom’s master projector.

The massive wall screen behind the table burst to life, displaying certified bank transfers, offshore account ledgers, and signed wire instructions bearing Julian Vance’s personal digital signature from October 2015.

Furthermore, an audio recording played through the room’s speakers—a tapped phone call from four hours ago between Julian and his mercenary captain, explicitly ordering the execution of Nora and Jamie Bennett at Hudson Children’s Hospital.

“Kill the girl and the boy,” Julian’s voice echoed clearly across the silent room. “Make sure Arthur’s line ends today.”

A collective gasp of shock and outrage erupted among the elders.

“You monster!” Don Bernardo, the oldest capo at the table, shouted, slamming his fist onto the mahogany. “You murdered our chief accountant and ordered a strike on a child in a hospital?!”

Julian’s face went pale as paper. He looked around frantically, but the men who had supported him moments ago were now glaring at him with absolute disgust and lethal fury.

“It’s a forgery! Dominic fabricated those files to eliminate me!” Julian screamed, pulling a small silver pistol from his suit pocket and aiming it directly at Nora’s chest. “She’s a lying nobody!”

Before Julian could pull the trigger, Nora moved with incredible swiftness.

She slammed her hand down onto the heavy crystal water decanter sitting on the table, sweeping it across the wood and smashing it directly into Julian’s wrist.

CRASH!

The gun clattered across the floor. Julian gasped in pain, stumbling backward, where Dominic instantly grabbed him by his collar, dragging him across the mahogany table and slamming him down onto the floor at the feet of the syndicate elders.

Dominic stood over the traitor, his polished shoe pressed firmly onto Julian’s chest.

“Arthur Bennett was ten times the man you will ever be,” Dominic hissed down at the writhing man. “And his daughter just ended your empire.”

Dominic looked up at Marco. “Hand him over to the federal prosecutors waiting outside. Stripped of his assets, his titles, and his freedom. Let him rot in a federal cage for the rest of his life.”

As Marco and three guards dragged the screaming, ruined traitor out of the hall, the thirty elders stood up in unison. They faced Dominic and Nora, bowing their heads in deep, absolute respect.

Nora looked up at Dominic, tears of vindication gleaming in her eyes. Her father’s name was clean. Her family’s honor was restored.

Dominic reached out, taking her hand in his, raising her knuckles to his lips in front of the entire underworld empire.
