Chapter 5 - The Siege of Castellano Mansion

The storm broke over Boston at midnight, a torrential downpour that slammed against the glass windows of the mansion, masking the sound of approaching engines. Inside, the lights had been entirely cut. Rafael had barricaded the primary entrances, transforming the historic estate into a dark, lethal fortress.
Delia sat in the center of the library, the very room where she had first told her story, holding a heavy iron fireplace poker—the only weapon she knew how to use. She refused to hide in the basement. She had spent her entire life running from poverty, from sickness, and from the shadows of powerful men. She was done running.
"They're cut off from the main road," Rafael said, stepping into the library through a concealed side panel. He wore a tactical vest over his black shirt, a cold, clinical precision guiding his every movement. "Silvio brought nearly twenty men with him. They've bypassed the outer gates. My soldiers are holding the terrace, but we are outnumbered."
He walked over to her, reaching out to gently take her chin in his hand, forcing her gray eyes to meet his. "If we do not survive this night, Delia, I want you to know something. You are the only person who has ever looked at me in this house without fear or greed in your eyes. You are worth a thousand Biancas."
"We are going to survive, Rafael," Delia said, her voice dropping into that same quiet, unyielding steady tone that had stopped the room nights ago. "Because the truth doesn't die in a house like this."
A sudden, deafening explosion rocked the front of the mansion. The glass windows of the grand hall shattered inward as a hail of automatic gunfire tore through the darkness. The siege had begun.
For the next twenty minutes, the house was a chaotic nightmare of flashes, thunderous cracks, and the screams of dying men. Rafael moved through the corridors like a ghost, his weapon barking in the dark, dropping Rossi soldiers with lethal accuracy. But the sheer volume of attackers pressed them back, forcing Rafael and Delia into the upper levels of the mansion.
The final stand happened on the grand balcony overlooking the great hall—the exact spot where Delia had stood twenty-four hours ago holding a tray of wine.
Silvio Rossi stepped through the smoke, his silver hair splattered with blood, his gold ring glinting as he raised a heavy automatic pistol. Beside him came Bianca, her silk dress torn and stained, her face twisted into a maniacal, victorious grin.
"It’s over, Rafael!" Silvio shouted above the sound of the rain pouring through the shattered ceiling. "The ledger is ours! By tomorrow morning, the FBI will receive a selective copy that destroys your entire network, and the Rossi family will rule this city!"
"You forgot one detail, Silvio," Rafael said, standing firmly in front of Delia, his own weapon aimed directly at the older boss’s chest despite the blood dripping from a graze on his shoulder.
"And what is that, you arrogant brat?" Silvio sneered.
"The ledger you stole from my vault was a duplicate," a quiet, clear voice spoke from behind Rafael.
Delia stepped out from his shadow, her grey eyes burning with an absolute, terrifying brilliance. In her hand, she held a small, modern digital flash drive—the one she had quietly extracted from Salvatore's private pocket while pressing her hands to his chest hours ago, right before he died.
"The old butler didn't hide the real evidence in the master vault, Bianca," Delia said, her voice carrying through the ruined hall like a bell. "He knew your father was a thief. He kept the original encrypted transaction logs hidden in his own quarters. The file in your hand is filled with corrupted data that will trigger an automatic digital wipe of your family’s offshore banking systems the second you try to decrypt it. You didn't steal his empire. You just liquidated your own."
Bianca’s eyes widened in pure, frantic horror. She pulled the black leather ledger from her bag, staring down at it as if it had suddenly turned into a snake. "Father... Father, she's lying! She has to be lying!"
"Check your phone, Silvio," Rafael whispered.
Silvio reached into his pocket with a trembling hand, pulling out his encrypted device. The screen was flashing a bright, automated red: ACCOUNT LIQUIDATION IN PROGRESS. GLOBAL BALANCE: $0.00.
"You crazy bitch!" Silvio screamed, turning his weapon away from Rafael and aiming it dead at Delia’s face.
Crack.
The sound was singular and absolute.
A dark red hole appeared in the center of Silvio Rossi’s forehead. He stood frozen for a fraction of a second, his eyes rolling back, before his body tumbled over the marble railing, crashing onto the shattered glass floor thirty feet below.

Rafael lowered his smoking weapon, his eyes instantly tracking to Bianca. The young heiress dropped to her knees, looking down at her father's body before looking up at the maid she had tried to humiliate. The diamond bracelet on her wrist felt like a lead shackle.
"Take her away," Rafael ordered as his remaining soldiers poured into the room, securing the surviving attackers. "The Rossi family name is officially erased from Boston."
