Chapter 6 - The Golden Harbor

Six months later, the autumn air over Boston Harbor was crisp and beautiful, lifting the scent of the ocean up into the manicured gardens of the Castellano estate. The historic mansion had been completely restored, the shattered stone replaced with smooth granite, and the grand chandeliers lighting the great hall with a warm, triumphant golden glow.
But the house was no longer a cold fortress of fear and secrets. The armed guards were gone from the doors, replaced by a legitimate maritime security force, and the grand rooms were filled with the light of a new era.
Delia Vance stood on the third-floor balcony, looking out at the rolling waves where The Northern Star had once sailed. She no longer wore the plain black maid’s uniform. She wore a stunning, emerald-green silk gown that complemented her grey eyes, her dark hair pinned up with a simple, elegant silver clip. Her hands were still slightly rough from her past, but she wore no diamonds to hide it. She didn't need them.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped gently around her waist from behind, and Rafael pulled her against his chest. He pressed a soft, lingering kiss to the edge of her jaw, right beside his pale scar.
"The Gloucester harbor authority just finalized the paperwork, Delia," Rafael murmured, his voice warm and steady against her ear. "The city has officially approved the construction of The Danny Vance Memorial Community Center on the old south docks. The construction will be entirely funded by the liquid assets seized from the Rossi estate."
A single, beautiful tear of relief slipped down Delia’s cheek, catching the sunlight like a prism. She turned around in his embrace, placing her hands on his chest, looking into the dark, soulful eyes of the man who had torn down an empire to help her find her peace.
"Thank you, Rafael," she whispered. "My mother can finally rest. And so can Danny."
May you like
"We both can," Rafael said, a genuine, rare smile breaking across his handsome face. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, beautifully polished silver key, placing it gently into her open hand. "This is the key to the main house, Delia. You entered this mansion as a servant trying to survive the dark. But starting today, you rule it as my equal. The ledger is finally clear."
Delia looked down at the silver key, then back up into his eyes. The six quiet words she had spoken months ago had started a war that completely destroyed their enemies, but in the ruins of the old world, they had built something entirely priceless. A brand new morning had arrived over the harbor, and for the first time in their lives, the future belonged completely to them.
