Chapter 6 - A Legacy Written in LightThe darkness was instantly pierced by the red emergency backup lights and the chaotic sounds of panic.

Sal Valenti’s men, knowing their empire was collapsing, had chosen desperation over surrender. Two gunmen rushed toward the center of the room, their weapons raised, searching for Marcus.

"Gianni! Take the left!" Marcus commanded over the noise, pushing Camila behind a heavy marble pillar. "Stay down, Camila!"

"Marcus, take this!" Camila yelled, reaching into her small evening clutch and pulling out a compact, high-powered tactical flashlight she had insisted on carrying. She blinded the lead gunman with a blinding ten-thousand-lumen beam directly to his eyes!

The gunman gasped, dropping his weapon to cover his face. Marcus moved with terrifying, fluid speed—closing the distance, disarming the man, and sweeping his legs out from under him with a single, brutal kick.

Within forty-five seconds, Gianni and the estate security team had neutralized the second gunman. The heavy doors of the ballroom burst open as federal agents and NYPD officers flooded the room, weapons drawn.

Sal and Dominic Valenti were slammed against the marble walls, placed in handcuffs, and dragged out of the Plaza Hotel in full view of the world’s media.

The Valenti threat was permanently extinguished.

One year later.

The autumn sun shone brightly over the manicured lawn of the Moretti estate in Riverdale. The trees were painted in rich hues of gold, amber, and crimson, casting a warm light over a grand marquee tent set up near the edge of the cliff overlooking the Hudson River.

Inside the private conservatory, Camila stood before a full-length mirror.

She wore a breathtaking custom gown of ivory silk and delicate lace, with a long, flowing veil that trailed behind her. Her dark hair was styled in soft, romantic curls. She looked radiant, strong, and completely at peace.

A soft knock sounded at the door.

Marcus walked into the room. He wore a sharp black tuxedo with a white lily pinned to his lapel. He stopped in his tracks the moment he saw her, his hazel eyes shining with an emotion so deep it took his breath away.

"You aren't supposed to see the bride before the ceremony," Camila said with a soft, playing smile.

Marcus walked over to her, completely ignoring tradition. He took her hands in his, bringing them to his lips, kissing her knuckles gently.

"I spent my whole life living by rules and contracts, Camila," Marcus whispered, looking deeply into her eyes. "Today, I only care about one."

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, leather-bound document. It wasn't a prenuptial agreement. It wasn't a corporate trust.

It was the deed to her father’s original office building in Red Hook, fully restored and legally registered under the name: Vance & Moretti Legal Defense Foundation—a non-profit organization designed to provide top-tier legal representation to victims of predatory lending and corporate fraud.

Camila’s hands trembled as she read the paper. Tears of pure joy welled in her eyes. "Marcus... this is..."

"Your father’s legacy," Marcus said softly, his thumb gently wiping a tear from her cheek. "And the official start of ours. You graduated top of your class at Columbia Law last week, Mrs. Moretti. It’s time you had your own firm."

Camila looked up at him, her heart overflowing with an intense, unshakeable love. "The twelve-month contract ended yesterday, Marcus. You don't owe me anything."

Marcus wrapped his heavy arms around her waist, pulling her close against his heart, his face inches from hers.

"The contract ended," Marcus whispered, his voice rich with devotion. "Now comes the real promise. No clauses, no hidden terms, no expiration date. Just you and me, forever."

"Find one flaw in that," Camila murmured with a radiant smile, leaning up on her tiptoes.

Marcus smiled, his dark eyes brimming with absolute happiness as he leaned down to kiss her.
