Chapter 6 - The True Mistress of Blackwood

One year later.

The grand ballroom of the Blackwood mansion was filled with warm, golden light, fragrant white roses, and the quiet music of a live string quartet.

The estate was host to the annual Blackwood Children’s Foundation Gala—a charitable initiative founded by Lily to provide legal protection, housing, and medical care for abused women and children across the Midwest.

The elite of Chicago society filled the hall—governors, judges, corporate titans, and international diplomats. But there was no arrogance in the air tonight. Everyone in the room knew that the woman standing beside Victor Blackwood was not a trophy or a social climber. She was the heart of the Blackwood empire.

Lily stood near the grand marble staircase, wearing an exquisite emerald-green silk gown that draped gracefully over her figure. Around her neck sat a simple, elegant diamond pendant—Victor’s wedding gift to her from six months ago.

Beside her, two-year-old Ethan looked dashing in a miniature black tuxedo, happily munching on a strawberry while holding his father’s hand.

"You look breathtaking, my love," Victor whispered, stepping up behind Lily and placing a soft kiss behind her ear, his hand settling comfortably over her waist.

Lily leaned back against his broad chest, looking out at the happy crowd gathered in the hall where, two years ago, she had bled on the cold marble floor.

"I was just thinking about the first day I walked through those front doors," Lily said softly, looking up at her husband. "I was wearing worn-out shoes and carrying everything I owned in a paper bag. I was so terrified."

"And now you own the house," Victor smiled, his gray eyes filled with endless pride. "And the man who built it."

"Li-Li!" Ethan tugged on her silk skirt, holding up his little strawberry-stained hand. "Up! Up!"

Lily laughed, bending down to scoop her son into her arms, kissing his warm, rosy cheek as he wrapped his sturdy little arms around her neck.

Dr. Wells walked over, holding a glass of champagne, offering a warm toast to the couple. "To the Blackwood family. May your home always be filled with the peace you fought so hard to win."

"To family," Victor agreed, clinking his glass against the doctor's, his arm remaining securely wrapped around Lily's waist.

As the music played softly into the evening, Lily looked through the tall glass doors leading out to the courtyard. The stars were bright in the clear Chicago night sky, shining down over the estate that had once felt like a prison, but was now a sanctuary of love, strength, and unbreakable devotion.

The monster in the dark was gone forever.

The humble nanny who had hidden in the shadows was now the beloved mistress of the empire, standing proud beside the man who loved her, holding the child she had saved, completely, beautifully at home.
