Chapter 6 - A New Dawn on Fifth AvenueSpring returned to New York with an explosion of vibrant cherry blossoms along Fifth Avenue and crisp, revitalizing air that swept through Central Park.

Inside the private sunroom of the Hawthorne estate, sunlight poured through towering stained-glass windows, illuminating rows of blooming orchids and casting warm patterns across the hardwood floor.
Claire sat at her grandfather’s antique writing desk, reviewing a final stack of documents before heading into the city for the annual spring charity gala—the exact same event where, six months prior, her life had nearly been destroyed by a bowl of meat sauce and a malicious whisper.
This time, the ballroom would be different.
She would walk in wearing a bespoke white gown designed by a house she personally owned, draped in diamonds that had belonged to her great-grandmother, flanked by people who valued loyalty above all else.
The heavy oak door of the sunroom clicked open.
Arthur Hawthorne stepped inside, leaning slightly on his polished ebony cane, holding a steaming porcelain cup of Earl Grey tea. He placed it gently on the corner of the desk.
“Car is waiting outside, Claire,” Arthur said, a warm, proud smile touching the corners of his mouth. “Though I must say, it’s entirely unnecessary for you to attend that particular gala. You could buy the hotel and turn it into a parking lot if you wanted to.”
Claire looked up, laughing softly. “No, Grandfather. Running away from battle isn't the Hawthorne way. Besides, I want to see who’s brave enough to try spilling soup on me this time.”
Arthur chuckled, resting a heavy, affectionate hand on her shoulder. “They won't. Predators recognize an apex predator when they see one.”
Claire stood up, smoothing the front of her tailored white blazer. She walked over to the tall mirror near the window, checking her reflection. No allergy mask. No stains. No fear.

“Let’s go,” Claire said, turning with a brilliant, unyielding smile. “We have a ballroom to conquer.”
