Chapter 6 - A New Legacy at Blackstone RidgeOne year later.

Spring had returned to Nashville in a breathtaking explosion of blooming white dogwoods, lush green hills, and warm southern sunshine.
Blackstone Ridge was filled with the joyful sounds of music, laughter, and children playing across the wide front lawn.
Today, there were no paparazzi hiding in the tree lines, no high-society gossip columnists judging the guest list, no fake smiles or corporate posturing.
Today was a wedding—a real wedding.
In the sunlit gardens overlooking the fifty acres, a modest white pavilion had been erected. Simple white hydrangeas and wild roses lined the aisle. Sixty guests—consisting of true friends, estate staff, local charity leaders, and Hannah’s family from her hometown—were seated in comfortable wooden chairs.
At the front of the altar stood Cole Mercer, looking extraordinarily handsome in a tailored dark gray suit. Beside him stood Harrison Reed, serving as his best man, and Dr. Arthur Bennett, beaming with pride.
In the front row, Evelyn Mercer sat holding a bouquet of yellow roses—Hannah’s favorite flower. Beside her sat small, adorable Maisie, wearing a white lace flower-girl dress with a yellow sash, holding a wicker basket of flower petals with absolute, solemn importance.
The string quartet began playing a soft, uplifting acoustic melody.
The crowd stood up.
Cole turned his head, his heart pounding in his chest with pure, radiant joy.
Walking down the aisle on the arm of her older brother was Hannah Parker.
She was breathtaking. She wore an ivory silk gown that flowed around her like water, simple and elegant, with delicate lace details along the shoulders. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves, adorned with tiny white blossoms.
She wasn't looking at the crowd. She wasn't looking at the estate. Her warm brown eyes were fixed entirely on Cole—the man who had carried her out of the dark and built a fortress of love around her life.
When she reached the altar, her brother gently placed her hand in Cole’s.
Cole took her hand, his fingers weaving through hers, his eyes shining with devotion.
“You look like an angel,” Cole whispered softly.
“I’m just a woman who found her home,” Hannah smiled radiantly back.
The minister stepped forward, his voice echoing warmly over the gentle spring breeze.
“Dearly beloved,” the minister began, “we are gathered here today in the presence of God and these witnesses to join Cole Mercer and Hannah Parker in holy matrimony. A union built not on status or fortune, but on truth, courage, and unwavering love.”
The ceremony moved swiftly, filled with heartfelt personal vows.
When it came time for the rings, little Maisie walked proudly up the altar steps, holding a small velvet pillow.
“I have the rings!” Maisie announced loudly to the guests, causing the entire crowd to let out a warm, affectionate laugh.
Cole knelt down beside the little girl, taking the small platinum band from the pillow. He looked into Maisie’s bright brown eyes.
“Maisie,” Cole said gently, pulling a second, small velvet box from his pocket. Inside was a tiny silver necklace with a heart-shaped pendant engraved with her name. “Before I give your mommy her ring, I have a promise to make to you.”
Maisie blinked, curious. “A promise?”
“I promise to protect you, to love you, to guide you, and to be the best father I can possibly be for the rest of my life,” Cole promised, his voice thick with emotion as he gently clasped the necklace around her neck. “Will you do me the honor of letting me be your daddy?”
Maisie threw her small arms around Cole’s neck, hugging him with all her strength. “Yes! I love you, Daddy!”
Tears of pure happiness welled in Hannah’s eyes, as well as in the eyes of every guest present. Evelyn Mercer dabbed her handkerchief at her eyes, smiling through her tears.
Cole stood up, turned back to Hannah, and slid the flawless diamond ring onto her finger.
“With this ring,” Cole vowed, “I give you my heart, my life, and my protection, forever.”
Hannah slid a matching platinum band onto Cole’s finger. “With this ring, I give you my love, my trust, and my soul, forever.”
“By the authority vested in me,” the minister declared with a bright smile, “I now pronounce you husband and wife! Cole, you may kiss your bride!”
Cole stepped forward, wrapped his arms around Hannah’s waist, and kissed her deeply, passionately, as the crowd erupted into thunderous, joyous applause.
Confetti and yellow rose petals rained down from the canopy above.
Cole took Hannah’s hand in his right, picked up little Maisie with his left arm, and together, as a complete, unbreakable family, they walked down the aisle into the warm, golden sunshine.
Later that evening, as the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of brilliant pink and gold, Cole and Hannah stood together on the high stone balcony of the master suite.
Below them, the lights of Blackstone Ridge shone brightly, casting a warm, welcoming glow over the estate. The laughter of their family drifted up from the patio where the reception was in full swing.
Hannah leaned her head against Cole’s broad chest, feeling the steady, strong rhythm of his heartbeat beneath her cheek. Cole wrapped his arms around her, holding her close against the cool evening breeze.
“What are you thinking about, Mrs. Mercer?” Cole whispered into her hair, kissing the top of her head.
Hannah looked out over the fifty acres of rolling green hills, seeing a place that was no longer a prison of high-society expectations, but a sanctuary of truth, healing, and boundless love.
“I was thinking,” Hannah said softly, turning her head to look up into his gray eyes, “that four-year-old Maisie was right on the night she ran to your car.”
Cole raised an eyebrow, smiling. “What do you mean?”
Hannah smiled—a radiant, beautiful smile that illuminated the twilight.

“She said she was taking me to the flower room,” Hannah whispered, resting her hand over his heart. “And she brought me straight to you.”
Cole smiled deeply, pulled his wife close, and kissed her beneath the twinkling stars of an endless, beautiful future.
