Chapter 2 - The Secrets of the Vault

The heavy oak door of Alejandro’s private office clicked shut, locking automatically with a secure digital deadbolt.

“Dr. Garza, take Camila and Sofía through the private panic corridor into the secure archive room behind the library,” Alejandro ordered, his voice dropping into a tone of absolute command. “No one enters that room without my voice print. Do you understand?”

“Mr. Salvatierra, what’s happening?” Dr. Garza asked, her eyes wide with alarm as she scooped the sleeping baby into her arms.

“I don't know yet,” Alejandro said, stepping toward his walnut desk and pressing a hidden panel that revealed a biometric wall safe. “But whatever my father set in motion before he died, someone is willing to breach this tower to stop it.”

Camila grabbed the hem of Alejandro’s shirt before he could turn away. Her small fingers were ice-cold. “Don’t let the woman in red take Sofía. She’s not just a baby. That’s what the men in the van said before Mama disappeared.”

“What did they say, Camila?” Alejandro asked urgently, kneeling beside her.

“They said the baby holds the key to the foundation trust,” Camila whispered, her eyes filling with tears she refused to let fall. “They said if the child turns six months old, the corporate charter changes, and everything belongs to us instead of them.”

Alejandro stood up, a cold fury washing over him. The corporate charter. The Salvatierra Foundation—a multi-billion-dollar philanthropic holding entity that controlled the entire financial empire his father had built. For years, rumors had circulated on the board about a secret codicil added to the charter during Mateo’s final months—a clause that would divert controlling shares away from the greedy hands of the executive board and into a designated bloodline trust.

If Sofía was the beneficiary of that trust... she wasn't just a lost child. She was the sole obstacle standing between the corporate syndicate and absolute control of the Salvatierra fortune.

Alejandro spun the dial of his wall safe and pressed his thumb against the optical scanner. The heavy steel door swung inward, revealing not cash or jewelry, but a single, dust-covered leather ledger bearing his father’s personal seal, alongside a sealed manila envelope labeled with his own name in familiar, sharp handwriting: For My Son, When the Truth Finds You.

He tore open the envelope. Inside were two documents: a certified birth certificate and a legal recognition of paternity, signed by Mateo Salvatierra.

The infant’s name wasn't just Sofía.

Her full name was Sofía Salvatierra.

She was Alejandro’s niece—or perhaps more directly, the daughter of Mateo’s secret second family, hidden away from the toxic wolves of the corporate board to protect her from the very people now hunting her.

Suddenly, a loud, metallic clunk echoed through the private hallway outside the office.

The service elevator chime rang once.

Someone had just bypassed the security firewall on the thirty-eighth floor.
