Chapter 6 - A New Dawn and a Safe HarborThe rain poured in sheets across the stone courtyard as Aleandro sprinted up the grand staircase, two steps at a time, his weapon drawn and ready.

In the east wing hallway, two of Valenti’s mercenaries had just forced the lock on the guest suite door. They kicked it wide open, sweeping their rifles across the empty bedroom.
"Clear!" one muttered.
"Check the bathroom," the other snapped.
Before the second man could reach the door, a heavy brass floor lamp came crashing down across the back of his skull with bone-crushing force. He dropped like a stone.
The first man spun around, raising his rifle, but a single gunshot echoed down the hallway. Aleandro stood fifty feet away, smoke curling from the barrel of his pistol, as the second intruder collapsed against the wall.
Aleandro rushed into the suite, his chest heaving. "Sophia!"
A small sound came from inside the adjoining bathroom. The frosted door clicked open an inch, and Sophia’s pale, tear-stained face appeared. She was holding Emma tightly against her chest, shivering from head to toe.
"Mr. Moretti..." she breathed, the terror finally breaking in her voice.
Aleandro holstered his weapon, crossed the room in two strides, and knelt beside them. He reached out, his large, calloused hands gently resting over Sophia’s trembling shoulders, guiding them both out into the safety of the bedroom.
"You're safe," Aleandro said, his voice dropping into a tone of absolute, unbreakable protection that he had never used with anyone else in his entire life. "It's over. No one will ever touch you or your daughter again."
Sophia looked up into his dark, intense eyes. In that moment, amid the smoke and the lingering danger of a shattered world, she saw a man who had burned away his illusions, leaving only a fierce, genuine desire to shield the innocent.
"Thank you," she whispered.
Three days later, the Moretti estate was quiet once more.
Dominic Valenti’s syndicate had been systematically dismantled by federal authorities, fueled by the comprehensive financial ledgers Aleandro had handed over to the Department of Justice. Isabella Romano was sitting in a federal holding cell, awaiting trial for treason and conspiracy.
The sun shone brightly over the manicured lawns of the Chicago estate.
In the breakfast room where it had all begun, Aleandro sat by the eastern window. But this time, he was not alone.
Emma sat across from him on a booster seat, giggling as she dipped a small sugar cake into her milk. Sophia stood nearby, pouring fresh coffee into his cup, her movements relaxed and steady.
Aleandro looked up, catching Sophia’s eye. A faint, rare smile touched the corners of his mouth.
"Sophia," he said quietly. "Cancel the housekeeping staff for the rest of the week."
She paused, raising an eyebrow. "And why is that, Mr. Moretti?"
"Because," Aleandro replied, leaning back in his chair with a quiet sense of peace he hadn't known in decades, "I want my favorite guests to have the day off."
Emma looked up from her cup, beaming with a bright, innocent smile. "Can we have sugar cakes every day now?"
May you like
Aleandro laughed—a rich, genuine sound that echoed through the sunlit room, washing away the last ghosts of the past.
"Every single day, sweetheart," he said. "Every single day."
