Chapter 6 - The New DawnAt precisely 10:00 AM, the massive oak doors of the downtown Vale Tower boardroom swung open.

Thirty of the most powerful executives, capos, and logistics directors in the Midwest sat around the massive glass conference table. The atmosphere was tense, charged with nervous anticipation following the sudden, unexplained disappearance of Arthur Voss the night before.
The heels of Dominic’s shoes—and the solid tap of his cane—echoed rhythmically across the imported Italian marble floor.
He didn't use the cane for support anymore; he carried it like a scepter of office.
Every man in the room stood up simultaneously as Dominic approached the head of the table. Their eyes were fixed on him with a mixture of awe, fear, and absolute deference.
Dominic stood tall, his shoulders squared, his gaze sweeping across the room with the unyielding intensity of a man who had stared into the abyss of betrayal and emerged victorious.
He placed both hands on the edge of the glass table and looked at his people.
"Good morning, gentlemen," Dominic said, his voice ringing clear and strong through the cavernous room. "I trust everyone had a restful evening."
Silence reigned supreme. Nobody dared move. Nobody dared speak.
"For the last three months, rumors have circulated about my health," Dominic continued, his voice dropping into a quiet, commanding register. "There were those who believed the Vale organization was ripe for the taking. There were those who thought that a temporary physical setback meant permanent weakness."
He paused, letting the words sink deep into the marrow of every man present.
"Let this morning be the final conversation on that subject," Dominic declared. "The foundation of this company is not built on glass towers, shipping lanes, or corporate portfolios. It is built on loyalty, precision, and absolute unyielding strength. Anyone who forgets that lesson... will find themselves removed from the equation."
Dominic sat down at the head of the table.
"Now," he said, opening the master portfolio before him with a sharp snap of paper. "Let’s review the third-quarter shipping projections. We have a lot of ground to cover."

Far away from the boardrooms and the high-stakes politics of Chicago, in the sunlit gardens of the Vale estate, a four-year-old girl named Ellie chased a golden retriever across the emerald grass, holding a wooden latch toy securely in her hand.
The storm had passed. The empire was secure. And the king had finally returned to his throne.
