Chapter 6 - The Blue SkyOne Year Later.

The Texas sun shone brightly over the flight line at the San Antonio Air Base.

A massive C-130 Hercules transport aircraft sat on the tarmac, its engines humming smoothly as mechanics completed their pre-flight checks.

Madison stood near the nose of the aircraft wearing her flight jumpsuit, holding a clipboard, reviewing the fuel manifests. She looked healthy, radiant, and completely at peace.

A black pickup truck pulled up near the security gate outside the tarmac.

Ethan stepped out of the truck, wearing jeans and a dark polo shirt, carrying a small cooler and a thermos of fresh coffee. He walked past the guard booth—holding a permanent spouse security pass—and walked straight up to his wife on the tarmac.

"Morning, Captain," Ethan smiled, handing her a hot cup of coffee.

"Morning, Engineer," Madison laughed, taking a sip and leaning up to press a warm kiss onto his lips. "What are you doing here before your site meeting?"

"Just wanted to see my favorite pilot before she takes off for Colorado," Ethan said, wrapping his arms around her waist, looking at her with deep, unshakeable devotion.

Over the past year, Madison had cut off all contact with Frank, Carol, and Tyler.

Frank had been forced to sell his prized fishing boat to pay the twenty-four-thousand-dollar restitution invoice to Madison’s legal team to avoid formal felony charges. Tyler had been forced to take a retail job to help his parents pay off their debts, his days of freeloading completely over. The Bennett family’s reputation in San Antonio had been utterly destroyed, their bitter envy exposed to every relative and neighbor in the county.

Meanwhile, Madison and Ethan had bought a beautiful home on five acres just outside San Antonio, building a life filled with laughter, mutual respect, and absolute freedom.

"You ready for this flight?" Ethan asked, smoothing a stray lock of hair behind her ear.

Madison looked up at the endless blue sky above the flight line—a vast, open horizon without walls, without bitterness, and without limits.

"I'm always ready," Madison smiled, holding Ethan's hand tightly.

She handed her clipboard to her co-pilot, put on her flight helmet, and walked up the hydraulic ramp of the giant aircraft. As the engines roared to life and the transport lifted smoothly into the clear Texas sky, Madison looked out the cockpit window at the world below.

She was no longer the girl trapped in a quiet room surrounded by torn fabric.

She was a Captain, a wife, and the sole architect of her own destiny—soaring higher than the people who had tried to clip her wings could ever dream.
