Chapter 6 - The Queen of ManhattanOne year later.

The grand ballroom of the St. Regis Hotel in Manhattan was illuminated by thousands of twinkling fairy lights and massive floral arrangements of white roses and orchids.

The room was filled with the most powerful figures in New York—senators, Supreme Court judges, international shipping tycoons, and the heads of the most respected families in Europe. Yet, tonight, there was no talk of syndicate wars, corporate takeovers, or financial rivalries.

Tonight was a celebration of victory, honor, and love.

At the head of the grand staircase stood Sophia Russo—now Sophia Moretti.

She wore a breathtaking custom ivory silk gown that cascaded down her frame, adorned with delicate lace hand-stitched by master artisans in Palermo. Her hair was styled in an elegant updo, secured by a vintage diamond tiara that had belonged to the Moretti family matriarchs for three generations.

Beside her stood Lorenzo, looking impossibly handsome in a black velvet tuxedo. His left shoulder had fully healed, and he carried himself with the proud, triumphant posture of a king who had secured his kingdom.

At a prominent table near the front sat Sophia’s grandmother, looking vibrant, healthy, and happy, surrounded by top medical staff and smiling broadly as she watched her granddaughter.

"Are you ready, my queen?" Lorenzo whispered in fluent Sicilian, leaning down to press a soft kiss against Sophia’s cheek.

"With you? Always," Sophia replied in the same ancient dialect, her hand resting comfortably in his strong grip.

Hand in hand, they descended the grand staircase to the thunderous applause of the crowd.

Over the past year, together they had completely transformed the Moretti empire. Under Sophia’s brilliant guidance as co-CEO and President of the Moretti Cultural & Educational Foundation, the family had transitioned eighty percent of its operations into legitimate global infrastructure, clean energy logistics, and historical preservation projects across Europe and North America.

They were no longer feared as a dark mafia dynasty; they were respected as an unstoppable global powerhouse built on intellect, integrity, and unshakeable family unity.

As the music swelled, Lorenzo took Sophia into his arms on the center dance floor. They moved together with effortless grace, floating beneath the crystal chandeliers as the world spun around them.

"Do you ever think about that night at Loro?" Lorenzo asked softly, looking down into her shining eyes, his arm wrapped possessively around her waist.

"Every day," Sophia smiled, leaning her head against his broad chest, listening to the steady, comforting beat of his heart. "If I hadn't bumped into your water glass, I’d still be clearing tables and worrying about rent."

Lorenzo paused, tilting her chin up with his thumb, looking into her eyes with a love so deep and fierce it took her breath away.

"If you hadn't bumped into my glass, Sophia," Lorenzo murmured softly, "I would have lost a fortune. But worse than that... I would have lived the rest of my life without ever knowing what it feels like to be complete."

Sophia smiled, pulling him down for a sweet, lingering kiss right in the middle of the dance floor, surrounded by light, music, and the clapping of three hundred guests.

The waitress who was once invisible had stepped out of the shadows, saved an empire, and conquered the heart of the most powerful man in New York. And as they danced late into the warm Manhattan night, both knew that their story was no longer written in faded parchment or old blood—it was written in gold, forever.
