Part 2: The Red-Eye Flight

Thirteen hours away, inside the bustling terminal of Changi Airport in Singapore, Daniel Miller was leaning against a glass railing, a cup of strong black coffee shaking slightly in his hand. The construction contract for the Marina Bay expansion project had been signed, sealed, and notarized ahead of schedule. It was a massive victory for Miller & Sons Construction—a deal that secured his company's financial dominance for the next decade.

His phone, switched to international roaming, suddenly vibrated violently in his palm. It wasn't a standard call or a text message. It was a high-priority, rhythmic alarm tone that he had only heard once before during the initial setup of their home network.

The screen read: TRUST ACCOUNT COMPROMISE / EMERGENCY LOCK ACTIVATED - RESIDENCE RECONNAISSANCE SYNCED.

Daniel’s brow furrowed. He dropped his coffee into a nearby trash bin and opened the secure application linked to our home trust. As the managing partner, he had access to the system alerts, though the primary execution rights belonged solely to me.

The application display didn't just show a system error. Because of the biometric override failure caused by Vanessa, the system had automatically triggered a data dump, capturing the exact geographic location of the device attempting the entry, the IP address of the local network router, and a five-second audio clip recorded by the phone's microphone right before it was kicked under the cabinet.

Daniel pressed the playback button, his noise-canceling headphones sealing out the roar of the airport terminal.

“Now everyone will think you fell…” Vanessa’s voice came through the speaker, crisp, cold, and unmistakable. Then, the sound of the front door opening, followed by Carol’s voice: “Is it done?”

Daniel froze. The color drained from his face so fast that his project manager, sitting on a bench nearby with the blueprints, stood up in alarm.

"Daniel? What’s wrong? Did the wire transfer from the ministry fail?" the manager asked.

Daniel didn't answer him. He was already sprinting toward the Singapore Airlines first-class desk, his passport already out of his pocket. "I need the absolute fastest flight to Dallas, Texas," Daniel demanded, his voice shaking with a terrifying blend of panic and fury. "Right now. Connect me through Tokyo, Los Angeles, anywhere. I don't care about the cost. Get me on a plane in the next ten minutes."

"Sir, the direct flight departs in two hours—"

"Look at my account flag," Daniel growled, slamming his corporate black card onto the counter. "Unleash whatever executive override you have. My pregnant wife is dying on my kitchen floor."

As the airline staff frantically tapped into their reservation system, Daniel opened the secondary link—the home surveillance backup that he had always considered an afterthought. Because the system was heavily encrypted, it took nearly three minutes for the satellite connection to pass through the secure protocols.

When the video feed finally rendered on his screen, Daniel’s breath caught in his throat.

The kitchen was empty of his mother and sister, but lying near the base of the island was me. The light blue maternity dress I wore was stained with dark fluid. My eyes were half-closed, my fingers twitching against the floor tiles as I drifted in and out of consciousness. The papers Vanessa had tried to force me to sign were gone, but the shattered remnants of my coffee mug and the chaotic state of the kitchen island painted a clear picture of a violent struggle.

"Clara..." Daniel whispered against the glass screen, his hand trembling as he watched his wife struggle to breathe.

He immediately dialed the emergency dispatch line for the Dallas Police Department, utilizing a priority corporate bypass number he kept for his site security. "My name is Daniel Miller," he said, his voice dropping into a dangerous, icy rhythm as he walked boarding the jet bridge. "I am currently calling from Changi Airport. I am looking at a live camera feed of my residence at 404 Willow Creek Lane. My wife is eight months pregnant with twins. She has been brutally assaulted and left for dead by Carol Miller and Vanessa Miller. Send an advanced life support ambulance and an armed tactical unit to that address immediately. If my children die before that ambulance arrives, I will hold your department personally accountable."

As the cabin doors of the Boeing 777 sealed shut, Daniel sat in his seat, his eyes locked on the live video stream of his kitchen floor, watching the slow, agonizing rise and fall of my chest as the plane pulled away from the gate and climbed into the midnight sky.
