Chapter 4 - The House CleansedWithin minutes, the entire estate was locked down under absolute martial law.

My private medical team had already arrived via a second helicopter, bringing Ethan back from the hospital. The boy was resting in his bed, his cheek neatly stitched and bandaged, sleeping fitfully under the heavy influence of prescribed sedatives. Maria sat by his bedside, holding his small, uninjured hand, weeping tears of profound relief.
Downstairs, the living room had been transformed into a tribunal.
Vanessa’s relatives were huddled together in the center of the Persian rug, shivering in terror as my chief enforcer, Mateo, cataloged their identities and checked their backgrounds on a ruggedized military tablet.
“Boss,” Mateo said, stepping forward and handing me a thick manila folder. “We dug into Vanessa’s financial records over the last three years. Aside from the emotional abuse and physical neglect of the boy, she’s been systematically embezzling funds from your secondary shell accounts, funneling hundreds of thousands of euros to her brother’s failed real estate ventures.”
I sat in a high-backed leather armchair, slowly leafing through the pages of betrayal. Every line of numbers represented another lie, another deceit, another moment she had smiled in my face while bleeding my empire dry behind my back.
Vanessa was dragged into the center of the room by two guards, her designer dress torn, mascara smeared across her tear-stained cheeks. She collapsed onto her knees at my feet, sobbing hysterically.
“Vincent! Please! Have mercy! Think of the years we spent together!” she wailed, grabbing the hem of my trousers.
I looked down at her the way a surgeon looks at a cancerous tumor before tossing it into the incinerator.
“You had everything,” I said quietly, my voice devoid of any human emotion. “A roof over your head, security, wealth beyond your imagination, and a boy who only ever wanted someone to hug him when he was scared. All you had to do was show a shred of basic human decency.”
I flicked my wrist dismissively.
“Mateo. Take her and her family out of my sight. Strip them of every single asset, every piece of jewelry, every cent they ever stole from me. Dump them on the streets of downtown Naples with the clothes on their backs and make sure every syndicate boss from here to Sicily knows that anyone who offers them shelter or a job becomes an enemy of the house.”
“No! No, please, Vincent, you can't do this! You’ll kill us!” Vanessa screamed as Mateo and his men hauled her away, kicking and thrashing, their desperate cries fading down the long marble corridor until the heavy soundproof doors sealed them out of my life forever.

The house fell silent. A heavy, suffocating weight seemed to lift from the architecture, as if the very walls were breathing a sigh of relief.
I stood up, adjusting my cuffs, and walked slowly up the grand staircase toward the second-floor nursery.
