Chapter 2 - The Collapse of the Illusion

Adrian didn’t even need to listen past the first thirty seconds. He turned away from Vanessa, his expression shuttered, a profound look of betrayal etched across his features.
“Pack your things,” Adrian said, his voice flat and dead. “The engagement is over.”
“You can’t do this!” Vanessa screamed, her voice echoing off the high ceilings as panic finally overwhelmed her composure. She lunged forward, grabbing his arm. “We’re getting married in two months! “You’re… you’re Eleanor Whitmore,” she whispered, the reality crashing down on her like a physical blow.

“The very same,” I replied calmly, adjusting my shoulders. “And you’ve just failed your final interview.”
Within twenty minutes, Rosa and Miguel had efficiently escorted Vanessa out of the front gates, piling her designer luggage onto the cobblestone driveway while she wept real, desperate tears of fury and regret. As her luxury rideshare pulled away, the heavy iron gates closed behind her, locking out a chapter of our lives that we were all too eager to forget.
