On the table beside her, a sleek laptop screen displayed the morning financial news headlines.

She closed the laptop lid with a soft click.
The nightmare was over. The suffocating weight she had carried since her father’s passing had vanished, replaced by the quiet, powerful hum of absolute independence.
A pair of warm arms wrapped gently around her shoulders from behind, and a familiar, deep voice whispered softly near her ear.
"Thinking about the past, or planning the future?"
Chloe leaned back against Marcus’s chest, a genuine, radiant smile spreading across her face—a smile that didn't have a trace of a customer-service mask in it.
"Neither," she replied, turning her head to press a light kiss against his cheek. "I’m just enjoying the view."
"Good," Marcus smiled, pulling her a little closer as the morning seagulls wheeled overhead across the endless, open sky. "Because the lawyers just called. The final paperwork for the new research foundation is cleared. You’re officially the sole majority shareholder of a company worth three hundred million dollars."
Chloe looked out over the sparkling ocean, her heart light and free.
