Chapter 4 - The Battle for the Valley

The alarm system inside the estate didn't scream or flash red. It operated on a silent, tactical frequency designed to protect the occupants without causing panic.

Within sixty seconds, steel security shutters descended over the lower windows of the main manor, sealing the stone building like a medieval castle.

Inside the study, Dante’s entire demeanor shifted. The gentle, vulnerable man who had been touching Amelia’s cheek vanished instantly, replaced by the terrifying, cold Underboss of New York.

He opened a hidden panel behind the oil painting of his mother, pulling out two tactical handguns and a radio.

"Amelia, listen to me carefully," Dante commanded, his voice iron-hard and absolute. "Take Sophie and go to the wine cellar beneath the kitchen. Dolores is already there. The door is reinforced titanium. Nobody gets through it."

"Dante, no!" Amelia cried, grabbing his forearm. "They came with heavy trucks! You can't face them alone!"

"I am not alone in these woods, Amelia," Dante said softly, looking into her terrified eyes. He reached up, cupping her face with both hands, pressing his lips firmly against her forehead. "I built this fortress twenty years ago for a day like this. Go to your daughter. I will come get you when it's over."

Amelia choked back a sob, nodded, and sprinted out of the study toward the south wing.

Outside, the quiet afternoon was shattered by the thunderous roar of engine revs and smashing iron.

Two heavy armored trucks had rammed through the outer wrought-iron gates, tearing down the stone pillars. Following behind them were four black sedans carrying fourteen armed men led by Frank Moretti—a ruthless Red Hook Underboss who had been seeking to steal Dante’s shipping territories for five years.

Marcus Vance stepped out of the lead truck, his broken arm wrapped in a crude sling, a wild, psychotic grin on his face. He held a shot-gun in his good hand, his eyes bloodshot with pure vengeance.

"CORSETTI!" Marcus screamed across the sunlit courtyard, his voice echoing off the stone walls. "I KNOW YOU HAVE HER HERE! GIVE ME AMELIA AND THE KID, AND WE MIGHT LEAVE YOU A PIECE OF YOUR ESTATE!"

Frank Moretti, a sharp-faced man in his fifties wearing a leather coat, stepped up beside Marcus, pointing his rifle toward the front entrance. "It's over, Dante! Your inner circle turned on you in Brooklyn! You're outnumbered three to one!"

Standing on the second-floor stone balcony directly above the grand entrance, Dante Corsetti stepped out into the open air.

He wore no body armor, no helmet—just his dark charcoal suit, standing tall against the autumn wind, looking down at the fifteen armed men in his courtyard with supreme, cold indifference.

"You brought fourteen men into my home, Frank," Dante said, his voice echoing across the gravel driveway like a slow tolling bell. "You should have brought fifty."

Dante raised his right hand and snapped his fingers once.

CLICK.

From the thick pine forests surrounding the driveway, from behind the stone walls, and from the roofs of the outer guest houses, twenty-five elite Corsetti marksmen emerged from the shadows like specters. Their weapons, equipped with red laser sights, instantly painted fifteen glowing dots directly onto the chests of Moretti’s men.

Frank Moretti’s face drained of every drop of color. He looked around the perimeter, realizing in one terrifying second that he hadn't launched a surprise attack—he had walked directly into a execution trap.

"No... wait..." Frank stammered, raising his hands slowly, dropping his rifle onto the gravel.

"You put a broken man on my doorstep, Frank," Dante said, stepping down the exterior stone staircase, his gun held loosely at his side. "And you threatened the woman who carries my heart."

"Dante, please! It was Vance's idea!" Frank begged, backing up against the truck. "He told us she was just a waitress! He said you wouldn't fight for her!"

Dante stopped five feet away from Marcus Vance.

Marcus was trembling so violently he could barely hold his shotgun. His face was pale with sheer, paralyzing horror as he looked into Dante’s silver eyes—eyes that held no mercy, no hesitation, no warmth.

"She was never just a waitress, Marcus," Dante whispered softly, his voice cutting through the wind. "She is the mistress of this house."

BANG!

Dante didn't even look down as his marksmen executed the breach. Within ninety seconds, the entire Moretti raid was disarmed, bound, and loaded into private security vans to be handed over to federal authorities along with twenty years of ironclad evidence that would wipe the Moretti family off the map forever.

Marcus Vance was dragged away, screaming and begging for forgiveness, his voice echoing uselessly into the dark pine forest until the vans drove away, leaving the valley in pure, serene quiet once again.

Dante stood in the center of the gravel driveway.

He didn't look at the blood on the stone. He turned around, wiped his hands with a clean silk handkerchief, and walked straight back toward the main house to open the heavy cellar door.
