Chapter 6 - A New Dawn for the Morettis

Six months later.

The summer sun shone brightly over Chicago, turning Lake Michigan into a brilliant sheet of sapphire blue. The city streets were warm, vibrant, and alive, freed from the dark shadows that had once haunted the East Side neighborhoods.

In the Riverwoods estate, the vast gardens were filled with the sound of laughter.

A brand-new, gleaming pink bicycle with silver tassels and a shiny bell zoomed down the paved garden pathway. Seven-year-old Emma, wearing a bright yellow sundress and a helmet, pedaled with all her strength, her dark hair flying in the warm breeze.

"Look at me, Daddy Rocco! Look how fast I can go!" she cheered, ringing her bell repeatedly.

Beside the stone patio, Rocco stood watching her, a genuine, radiant smile on his handsome face. He held five-month-old Leo in his arms, the healthy baby boy gurgling happily as he played with the silver button on Rocco’s suit vest.

Sarah walked out of the estate’s French doors, carrying a tray of iced lemonade. She looked radiant, her skin glowing with health, her eyes completely free of the grief and fear that had once defined her life. She wore a simple, elegant ivory dress that caught the summer light.

"Emma, slow down near the rose bushes!" Sarah called out with a warm, motherly laugh.

"She’s fine, my love," Rocco smiled, stepping over to Sarah and wrapping his free arm around her waist, pulling her close to his side. He leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips—a deep, comfortable kiss born of absolute devotion.

Over the past six months, the Moretti estate had transformed into a true family home.

Rocco had reorganized the syndicate's operations, establishing the Emma Vance Foundation—a massive multi-million-dollar charity funded directly by syndicate profits that provided housing, food, medical care, and legal protection for struggling single mothers and children across Illinois.

The bad men were gone. The city was safe. And honor had been permanently restored to the Moretti crest.

"I still can't believe this is real sometimes," Sarah whispered, leaning her head against Rocco’s broad chest as they watched Emma circle the grand fountain on her bike. "Sometimes I wake up thinking I’m still on that cold kitchen floor."

Rocco turned her face gently toward his, his dark eyes filled with a fierce, eternal promise.

"You will never touch a cold floor again, Sarah," Rocco promised softly. "You, Emma, and Leo are my life now. My home, my heart, and my future."

From his coat pocket, Rocco pulled a small velvet box. He popped the latch, revealing a magnificent diamond ring that sparkled like the sun on the lake.

Sarah gasped, her hands trembling as tears of pure happiness filled her hazel eyes.

"Sarah Vance," Rocco spoke softly, his voice rich with deep emotion. "Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, and making this family whole forever?"

Sarah looked from the ring to the man who had pulled her from the dark, who had fought a war for her children, and who had loved her with every beat of his heart.

"Yes, Rocco," she wept joyfully, throwing her arms around his neck. "Yes! A thousand times yes!"

Emma skidded her pink bicycle to a halt beside them, hopping off and throwing her arms around both of their legs, sandwiching herself between them with a triumphant cheer.

"Does this mean Barnaby the bear gets to stay forever too?!" Emma squealed.

Rocco laughed deeply, picking Emma up with his free arm so that he held both children against his chest, with Sarah wrapped tightly in his embrace.

"Barnaby stays, the pink bike stays, and we stay together," Rocco said, kissing Emma’s cheek, then Leo’s head, and finally Sarah’s lips. "Forever."

Under the bright Chicago sun, surrounded by rose gardens and guarded by an unbreakable promise, the real Don of Chicago found the one thing money and power could never buy: a family built on love, protected by honor, and blessed with a new dawn.
