Chapter 5 - The Tides TurnFor the next two hours, the courtroom felt less like a divorce finalization and more like a tribunal.

Judge Vance systematically dismantled every single argument put forward by Daniel’s stunned attorney. Sterling tried desperately to salvage the case, but the evidence was overwhelming. The medical documentation of the assault, the undeniable hospital records confirming the twin pregnancy, and the undeniable paper trail of hidden offshore accounts painted a damning portrait of systematic deception and physical abuse.

"Mr. Sterling," Judge Vance said, her voice dripping with icy disdain as she looked down from the bench. "Your clients attempted to defraud both this court and a vulnerable spouse while actively endangering the lives of unborn children. Not only am I throwing out the prenuptial agreement due to clear clauses of endangerment and domestic violence, but I am ordering an immediate freeze on all assets currently held by Mrs. Irene Reeves, pending a full forensic financial audit."

Irene stood up, her face flushed with incandescent rage, completely losing her composure. "You can't do this! That money is mine! That little liar manipulated everything from the start! She staged the whole thing!"

"Sit down, Mrs. Reeves, before I hold you in contempt of court and have the bailiff escort you to a holding cell," Judge Vance warned, her eyes flashing dangerously.

Irene sank back into her seat, trembling with impotent fury, her manicured nails digging into the armrest until her knuckles turned white.

Judge Vance turned her attention directly to Daniel, who looked like a ghost, staring blankly at the polished wooden table.

"Mr. Reeves," the judge said sternly. "You stood by and watched your elderly mother physically assault your pregnant wife. You aided and abetted the concealment of marital assets. Effective immediately, temporary emergency spousal support, full medical coverage for the pregnancy, and interim control of the primary marital residence are awarded to Mrs. Emma Reeves. A criminal referral for Mrs. Irene Reeves regarding the assault will be forwarded to the District Attorney's office by the end of the day."

The gavel came down one final time. Bang.

It was over.

As the gallery began to clear, Daniel slowly stood up, turning toward Emma with pleading, desperate eyes. He took a hesitant step forward, his voice cracking. "Emma... please. Wait. Can we... can we talk about this? We can fix this. We're a family..."

Emma didn't stop walking. She didn't even slow down. She looked at Daniel—not with anger, not with hatred, but with a profound, liberating indifference. He was a stranger. A ghost of a past life she had finally managed to escape.

"Talk to my lawyer, Daniel," Emma said coldly, walking past him toward the exit, her head held high and her hand resting safely over her growing belly. "You and your mother are going to need all the legal help you can get."
