PART 3: The Family That Didn’t Expect Me to Stand Up

The Vance family lived twenty-three miles from the hospital.
A mansion built on glass wealth and polished cruelty.
By the time I arrived, the rain had stopped.
Everything looked too clean.
Too untouched.
Like violence had never happened there.
I walked up the front steps without hesitation.
A maid opened the door.
“Yes?” she asked.
“I’m here for Trevor Vance,” I said.
Her expression tightened.
“He’s not available.”
I stepped forward anyway.
“Tell him,” I said calmly, “that the woman whose daughter he tried to kill is standing at his door.”
Five seconds later, Trevor appeared.
Perfect hair. Expensive shirt. Calm face.
The face of a man who had never been held accountable for anything in his life.
“What is this?” he sighed. “Is this about Brooke? Because she’s in medical care now—”
I slapped him before he finished the sentence.
The sound cracked through the hallway.
His head turned slightly.
He didn’t even look surprised.
Just annoyed.
“You came to my house for that?” he said coldly.
Behind him, Victoria Vance appeared.
Sharp eyes. Cold smile.
“She’s unstable,” Victoria said. “We told her not to resist discipline.”
That word.
Discipline.
Something in me shifted again.
But I didn’t explode.
Not yet.
Instead, I pulled out my phone.
And showed them one image.
Brooke in ICU.
Barely alive.
Machines keeping her breathing.
The smile disappeared from Victoria’s face.
Trevor frowned.
“She’ll recover,” he said dismissively. “She’s strong.”
I leaned closer.
“No,” I said quietly. “She’s alive because I chose not to kill you an hour ago.”
Silence.

For the first time—
They understood I wasn’t bluffing.
