Kaleb sat with his mother on the sunlit stone patio where the disastrous engagement party had taken place. The white roses had been replaced by fresh, natural blooms, and the air carried the scent of fresh coffee and ocean breeze.
“I’ve learned my lesson, Mom,” Kaleb said quietly, staring out at the horizon. “I was so focused on building success that I forgot to look at character. I let ambition blind me.”
