Chapter 5 - The Unmasking by the WaterThe crowd parted as Julian and I descended the grand stone staircase, stepping out onto the illuminated terrace. At the center of the platform stood a makeshift altar draped in white roses, right beside the deep end of the sparkling swimming pool. Seated prominently in the front row was Lenora Voss, wearing an expensive emerald dress financed by the preliminary accounts Julian had managed to tap into, wearing a smug, victorious grin.

A local judge, hired privately by Julian to officiate the symbolic renewal, cleared his throat and stepped up to the microphone.
"We are gathered here tonight to celebrate resilience, forgiveness, and the unbreakable union of Julian and Lenora Voss..." the judge began, reading from his script.
I let him speak. I let Julian hold my hand, feeling the smug arrogance radiating from his palm. I let the cameras flash, capturing every moment of our supposed reconciliation for the morning front pages.
When the judge finally reached the conclusion of his speech, asking if there were any final remarks before the exchange of vows, I gently pulled my hand out of Julian’s grasp.
"Actually, Your Honor," I said, my voice carrying cleanly through the high-end audio system across the entire silent courtyard, "there is one small matter of business we need to address before we renew anything."
Julian frowned, his smile faltering slightly. "Len, what are you doing? This isn't part of the program."
"Quiet, darling," I smiled sweetly, turning to face the sea of confused guests, board members, and journalists holding live-stream devices. "In light of our recent asset consolidation, I thought it would be fitting to share a brief financial audit with our esteemed partners here tonight."
I snapped my fingers.
From the side gates, two federal marshals in dark suits walked briskly onto the terrace, accompanied by a representative from the U.S. Attorney’s Office holding a thick stack of blue-jacketed federal indictments.
Absolute silence fell over the garden. The ambient jazz music stopped abruptly as the lead marshal stepped past the altar and stopped directly in front of Julian.
"Julian Voss," the agent stated loudly, pulling out a folded document. "You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, identity falsification, securities manipulation, and conspiracy to commit grand larceny."
Color drained from Julian’s face so fast he looked like a corpse. "This is a mistake!" he shouted, stepping back and knocking over a floral arrangement. "My wife signed those asset transfers! We have legal clearance!"
"Your wife did sign them," a calm, familiar voice echoed from the rear of the crowd.
Arthur Vance, senior partner at Vance & Sterling Trust Law, stepped forward through the parting guests, carrying an executive leather briefcase. "Unfortunately for you, Mr. Voss, the signature blocks you provided contained forged secondary beneficiary clauses routing capital to an unlisted offshore entity controlled by your mother, Lenora Voss—who currently has an active federal warrant for her role in public contract embezzlement dating back twelve years."

Lenora shrieked from the front row, leaping to her feet. "That's a lie! You can't prove—"
"We can prove every cent, Mrs. Voss," the federal prosecutor interjected, signaling toward the estate gates where three more squad cars rolled in with flashing blue and red strobes cutting through the night.
