Chapter 3 - The Expulsion

Before Vanessa could formulate her next defense, the heavy oak study doors swung open.

Frank, my head of security and logistics, stepped inside. He didn't knock. He didn't need to. In his hand, he held a sleek black tablet displaying security feeds and financial records.

"Mr. Whitfield," Frank said, nodding respectfully before turning his cold, flat gaze toward Vanessa. "The audit of the wedding committee expenses has cleared. It appears Miss Cole’s personal accounts received three consecutive wire transfers totaling two hundred and fifty thousand dollars over the last month from an anonymous shell corporation registered in the Cayman Islands."

Vanessa’s face turned the color of ash. "That's a lie. That's private—"

"Registered under the holding name Cole & Vanguard Holdings," Frank continued smoothly, stepping closer. "The same Vanguard syndicate that has been attempting hostile buyouts of our shipping terminals in Charlotte for the past six months."

The pieces locked into place with the precision of a bank vault door. Vanessa wasn't just an ambitious social climber marrying into the Whitfield empire; she was a planted corporate asset designed to infiltrate my inner circle, access the private encryption keys for our logistics network, and dismantle my operations from the inside out while keeping my attention divided.

"You traded my name for a seat at Vanguard's table," I said, walking slowly around the desk until I stood inches from her. "You thought because I laughed at your lemon dessert joke that I was getting soft."

Vanessa looked up at me, her eyes flashing with sudden, venomous hatred. "You arrogant bastard! You think you own this city just because your father left you a bunch of warehouses? You’re a relic, Daniel! Men like Vanguard are modernizing Charlotte, and you're just an obstacle they're going to crush!"

I didn't yell. I didn't raise a hand. I simply signaled Frank with a flick of my wrist.

"Pack her bags, Frank," I instructed coldly. "Escort her off the property before the security gates lock for the night. And notify the district attorney’s office that we have new evidence regarding corporate espionage and industrial sabotage."

"You can't do this!" Vanessa screamed as Frank’s heavy hand gripped her shoulder, steering her toward the side exit. "You'll regret this, Daniel! Vanguard will tear your empire down to the studs!"

As the heavy doors clicked shut behind her, the study returned to a profound, echoing silence.
