Chapter 5 - The Commission’s JudgmentThe Grand Hotel’s subterranean ballroom was a cathedral of dark mahogany, velvet, and iron.

Around a massive oval table sat the seven heads of the city's ruling crime families—the Commission. Each Don was surrounded by armed bodyguards, their faces carved from years of ruthlessness, greed, and power.
At the head of the table sat Don Carmine Moretti—an elderly, brutal man with silver hair, wearing a three-piece pinstripe suit, clutching a gold-headed cane.
"Dominic Rossi is finished," Moretti declared, his gravelly voice echoing off the stone walls. "His lieutenant betrayed him. He was shot. And now, I hear he sits in his mountain mansion being nursed by some penniless hospital worker. He has lost his edge. His territories should be divided among those of us who still know how to rule."
Several Dons nodded in agreement, murmuring quietly among themselves.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the back of the ballroom were violently thrown open.
Silence fell over the room like a heavy shroud.
Stepping through the doors was Dominic Rossi.
He wore a custom, double-breasted black suit that fitted his broad shoulders perfectly. His posture was upright, regal, and imposing. There was no limp, no sign of weakness, no hesitation in his stride. He walked down the center aisle with the effortless, terrifying aura of a king returning to his throne.
And walking beside him, her hand tucked firmly into the crook of his left arm, was Nora.
She wore a stunning, emerald-green silk gown that hugged her graceful frame, her dark hair styled in elegant waves over her shoulders. Her chin was held high, her green eyes calm, fierce, and entirely unfazed by the dozens of armed men staring at her.
Behind them walked Leo and twenty heavily armed Rossi enforcers, their presence filling the rear of the hall.
"Don Moretti," Dominic’s voice boomed softly through the silent room, carrying a lethal, smooth resonance. "I heard you were talking about my health."
Moretti’s face paled slightly, his grip tightening on his gold cane as Dominic approached the table.
"Dominic," Moretti stammered, recovering his composure. "We... we were informed you were incapacitated."
"You were informed by traitors and fools," Dominic replied, pulling out the grand leather chair at the head of the table. He didn't sit down immediately; instead, he gently guided Nora into the chair beside him, bowing his head slightly in a gesture of profound respect that shocked every Don in the room.
Dominic then sat down, resting his broad hands on the polished wood.
"This is Nora Hayes," Dominic announced, his gray eyes sweeping across the seven crime bosses with absolute dominance. "She is the woman who saved my life. She is the woman who stood beside me when Julian Vance brought twenty men to my home. And as of today, she holds full executive authority over the Rossi family's medical and philanthropic foundations."
Moretti let out a mocking sneer. "A nurse? You bring a civilian servant into the Commission chamber, Rossi? Have you lost your mind? She knows nothing of our world!"
Nora didn't wait for Dominic to defend her.
She leaned forward, resting her elbows on the mahogany table, looking directly into Don Moretti’s arrogant eyes with cold, unyielding confidence.
"I know that your syndicate's private pharmaceutical distribution in the East District lost four million dollars last quarter due to poor supply chain management, Don Moretti," Nora said clearly, her voice echoing through the silent room. "I also know that your personal physician has been falsifying your medical reports regarding your advanced kidney disease to keep your lieutenants from challenging your leadership."
Moretti froze, his eyes widening in pure horror. "What... how do you—"
"I am a trauma nurse, Mr. Moretti," Nora continued smoothly, a small, icy smile touching her lips. "I read charts, I track symptoms, and I notice details that men with guns usually miss. If you think I am Dominic’s weakness, I invite you to test that theory tonight. But I assure you... you won't survive the diagnosis."
The entire ballroom went completely silent.
Several Dons leaned back in their chairs, exchange glances of shock and profound admiration.
Dominic looked at Nora, his chest swelling with fierce, overwhelming pride and love. He reached across the table, taking her hand, kissing the back of her knuckles openly in front of the entire underworld assembly.
"My territory remains mine," Dominic declared, his voice dropping into a tone of absolute finality. "Any man who challenges my family, my business, or my woman... will answer to me personally."
No one spoke. No one raised a weapon.
Don Moretti lowered his head, staring at the table in defeated silence.

Dominic stood up, holding his hand out to Nora. She took it without hesitation, standing tall and beautiful beside him.
Together, they turned their backs on the Commission and walked out of the ballroom, leaving behind a conquered underworld and a new legend that would be whispered for generations.
