Chapter 6 - A Life Worth Fighting ForSix months later.

The afternoon sun cast long, golden streaks across the lush, green lawns of the Rossi estate.
The iron gates at the bottom of the driveway stood open, decorated with cascading white roses, silk ribbons, and warm lanterns. The stone gargoyles no longer looked severe; they seemed to guard a place of life, warmth, and celebration.
In the grand courtyard behind the mansion, overlooking the breathtaking mountain valley below, a classical string quartet played softly. Over two hundred guests—business leaders, local politicians, rehabilitated staff, and loyal friends—gathered around rows of white linen-covered chairs.
Inside the restored master suite, Nora stood before a full-length mirror.
She wore a breathtaking, off-the-shoulder wedding gown of ivory lace, featuring a long, flowing train that trailed behind her like froth on a wave. Her dark hair was pinned back with diamond-encrusted pins, and a delicate silver necklace—a Rossi family heirloom given to her by Leo—rested against her collarbone.
A gentle knock sounded at the door.
Leo stepped inside, wearing an immaculate tuxedo, holding a bouquet of white peonies and eucalyptus.
He stopped, staring at her, a genuine, warm smile breaking across his usually stern face.
"You look magnificent, Mrs. Rossi," Leo said softly, handing her the bouquet.
Nora smiled, her green eyes shining with happy tears. "Thank you, Leo. For everything. For not letting me leave that first night."
"It was the best decision I ever made for this house," Leo replied, offering his arm. "The Don is waiting."
Nora took his arm, and together they walked down the grand marble staircase—the very staircase where blood had once been spilled, now covered in soft rose petals and warm candlelight.
They stepped out into the bright afternoon sunlight of the courtyard.
Standing at the altar before a sea of smiling faces was Dominic Rossi.
He looked impossibly handsome in a custom black tuxedo, his dark hair combed back, his broad physique commanding the entire space. His right shoulder was completely healed, his posture strong and proud.
As Nora walked down the aisle toward him, Dominic’s icy gray eyes softened into a look of pure, unadulterated devotion. Tears glistened at the corners of his eyes—the ruthless mafia Don reduced to awe by the courage and beauty of the woman walking toward him.
Nora reached the altar. Dominic stepped forward, taking both of her hands in his, his grip warm, strong, and steady.
"You took your time, Hayes," Dominic whispered, a low, breathtaking smirk touching his lips.
"I had to make sure you didn't run away, Mr. Rossi," Nora whispered back, her smile radiating pure happiness.
The priest began the ceremony, his words carrying over the quiet breeze blowing off the mountains.
"Do you, Dominic Rossi, take Nora Hayes to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, till death do you part?"
Dominic looked deeply into Nora’s green eyes, his voice echoing clearly across the valley.
"I do," Dominic swore, his voice thick with raw emotion. "She saved my life, she claimed my soul, and I am hers forever."
"And do you, Nora Hayes, take Dominic Rossi to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
Nora squeezed his hands tightly, a joyful tear slipping down her cheek.
"I do," Nora said firmly. "I defied the boss, refused to leave, and found my home."
"By the authority vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest declared. "You may kiss the bride."
Dominic didn't hesitate.
He wrapped his broad left arm around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest, and leaned down, pressing his lips to hers in a deep, passionate, breathtaking kiss that filled the entire courtyard with cheers, applause, and raining white petals.
When they finally broke apart, gasping for air, Dominic rested his forehead against hers, his eyes shining with infinite love.
"No more rent, Nora," Dominic whispered softly, a quiet laugh rumbling in his chest.
Nora laughed, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck, looking out at the beautiful life they had built together from the ashes of pain and fear.

"No more rent, Dominic," Nora whispered back, kissing his lips once more. "Just us."
And under the bright, clear sky of the mountain estate, the poor nurse who had refused to leave walked into her forever—safe, loved, and reigning as the undisputed queen of the man who had surrendered his heart to her courage.
