Chapter 1 - The Arrival of the True Owner

The tension in the grand ballroom was thick enough to suffocate. Two hundred pairs of eyes remained glued to Vivienne, who stood shivering slightly, not from cold, but from the raw, unadulterated betrayal vibrating through her veins. The pale blue fabric of her maternity gown hung in pathetic, shredded tatters around her shoulders, exposing the smooth silk of her slip. Her hands, trembling but resolute, held the torn pieces together over her prominent eight-month pregnant belly.

Chloe let out a sharp, mocking laugh that echoed off the hand-painted fresco ceilings. "Look at her! Still trying to play the victim. You can call whoever you want, Vivienne. Call your broke relatives, call your low-class friends. It won't change the fact that you are a thief, and tonight, you’re leaving this wedding in handcuffs."

"Chloe, that’s enough," Dominic muttered, his voice weak, his eyes darting around the room to gauge the reactions of their high-society guests. He looked at Vivienne, a flash of irritation crossing his face. "Vivienne, just stop making a scene. If you didn't take it, let the security guards do a proper pat-down so we can finish the reception. You’re embarrassing me. You're embarrassing my family."

"You're embarrassing me."

The words cut deeper than the tearing of her dress. Vivienne looked at the man she had loved for three years. The man who had witnessed his mother and sister treat her like a stray dog brought into a palace. She had endured the subtle jabs, the exclusion from family dinners, the snide remarks about her "cheap" clothing, all because Dominic had begged her to keep the peace.

Just give them time, Viv. They’ll see how amazing you are.

But time had run out.

"I am embarrassing you?" Vivienne’s voice was dangerously quiet, but it carried across the silent room. "Your mother just assaulted a pregnant woman in front of two hundred people. Your sister falsely accused me of a felony. And your response is to worry about your reputation?"

Eleanor stepped forward, her diamond necklace catching the light of the chandeliers as she sneered. "Reputation? Darling, you never belonged in our social circle to begin with. Dominic married down when he took you in. We tolerated your presence because of the baby, but stealing a million-dollar heirloom? That is where the charity ends."

Before Dominic could reply, the massive, gold-leaf double doors of the grand ballroom were violently thrown open.

The heavy thud of the doors hitting the walls silenced the murmuring crowd. A line of men dressed in tailored black suits entered the room with military precision. They didn't look like standard hotel security; they moved with the cold, imposing authority of federal agents or elite private security forces. They immediately formed a corridor from the entrance straight to the champagne fountain.

At the end of the corridor walked a single man.

He was in his late fifties, silver-haired, possessing a commanding aura that immediately demanded total submission from anyone in his presence. He wore a bespoke charcoal suit, and his eyes, cold as arctic ice, swept over the ballroom.

The murmurs started instantly, but this time, they were filled with sheer terror and awe.

"Is that... Alexander Vance?" "The real estate tycoon? The billionaire?" "What is he doing here? The Vance Group doesn't do public appearances."

Dominic’s father, Richard, who had been hiding in the back drinking scotch, suddenly dropped his glass. It shattered on the marble floor. Richard scrambled forward, his face pale, sweating profusely. "Mr. Vance! Sir! We... we had no idea you would be honoring us with your presence! If we knew the head of the Vance Empire was visiting one of his properties, we would have prepared a formal welcome!"

Alexander Vance didn't even look at Richard. He walked straight past him, his polished leather shoes clicking sharply against the floor. His gaze was locked onto one person.

Chloe, suddenly desperate to impress the billionaire, stepped forward, smoothing her wedding gown. "Mr. Vance, I am so sorry for the commotion. We are currently dealing with a low-class thief who ruined my wedding. If your security could take her away—"

Alexander stopped directly in front of Chloe. The temperature in the room seemed to drop by ten degrees.

"Get away from my daughter," Alexander said, his voice a low, terrifying growl.

The ballroom fell into a dead, horrifying silence.

Chloe froze, her mouth half-open. "Your... your what?"

May you like

Alexander bypassed Chloe entirely and stepped toward Vivienne. The moment his eyes landed on her torn dress and her trembling hands, the coldness in his expression melted into pure, heartbreaking fury. He took off his bespoke suit jacket and gently wrapped it around Vivienne’s shoulders, pulling her into a secure, protective embrace.

"I’m here, sweetheart," Alexander whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "Dad’s here. Nobody is going to hurt you ever again."
