Chapter 2 - Reviewing the Tapes and Exposing the Plot

Dominic felt the ground drop out from beneath his feet. He stared at his wife, then at Alexander Vance, the man whose net worth could buy his family's entire logistics company a hundred times over without denting his bank account.
"Vivienne..." Dominic choked out, taking a step forward. "You're... Mr. Vance is your father?"
Vivienne pulled her father's jacket tighter around herself, looking at Dominic with eyes devoid of any warmth. "You never asked about my family, Dominic. You just listened to your sister and mother when they decided I came from nothing because I preferred a quiet life instead of flaunting wealth."
Alexander turned to face the room, keeping one arm firmly around his daughter. The elite security guards closed in, forming an impenetrable wall around the Vance family.
"My daughter wanted a normal life," Alexander announced, his voice booming through the acoustics of the grand ballroom. "She wanted to know if a man could love her for who she was, not for her inheritance. So, I let her live quietly. I let her marry into your family, believing that you would protect her. Instead, I find out that for three years, you have treated the sole heiress of the Vance Empire like garbage."
Eleanor was shaking, her face completely drained of color. "Mr. Vance... there must be a mistake. She... she stole Chloe's ring! We found an electronic access card in her purse! It’s a skimming device, surely!"
"That access card," a sharp, professional voice cut through the air, "is a Black-Level Master Key to every Vance property worldwide."
A young woman in a sharp navy suit stepped forward, holding a tablet. It was Julianne, Alexander’s chief legal counsel. "It grants absolute administrative access. It belongs to Ms. Vivienne Vance. And as for the stolen ring..." Julianne looked up, her eyes landing on the wedding planner, who looked ready to faint, and Chloe's cousin, Amanda. "We have already pulled the internal feed."
"What internal feed?" Chloe shrieked, her voice cracking with panic. "The hotel said the ballroom cameras were undergoing maintenance today!"
Vivienne spoke up, her voice steady and clear. "The standard public cameras are undergoing maintenance, Chloe. But my father owns this hotel. Every Vance luxury property has an independent, high-definition, encrypted security system built into the architecture. The red light right above the exit? It’s been recording the whole time."
Julianne tapped her tablet, and suddenly, the massive projector screens on either side of the ballroom—which were supposed to show a slideshow of Chloe and her groom—flickered to life.
The video footage was crystal clear.
The screen showed the bridal suite from earlier that evening. Chloe was sitting at the vanity, loudly complaining to her cousin Amanda and the wedding planner about Vivienne's presence.
"I can't believe Dominic let that cheap trash wear a blue dress. She looks like a glorified maid," Chloe's voice boomed from the ballroom speakers.
The guests gasped. Chloe covered her face with her hands.
The video skipped forward to the reception, near the champagne fountain. The camera zoomed in on Chloe walking past Amanda. As they crossed paths, Chloe deliberately slipped her million-dollar diamond ring into Amanda’s silver evening purse. The wedding planner stood a few feet away, acting as a lookout, blocking the view from the main crowd.
The footage played in slow motion, showing the exact moment the ring left Chloe's finger and entered Amanda’s bag.
"No... no, that’s edited! That's a lie!" Amanda screamed, dropping her silver purse as if it had turned into a snake.

The purse hit the floor, snapping open. The massive, brilliant diamond ring rolled out onto the polished marble, sparkling under the chandeliers.
The silence that followed was deafening.
