Chapter 5 - Rebuilding from the AshesSix months later.

The morning sun shone brightly through the soaring glass windows of the newly renovated Moretti Cultural & Design Center in the heart of the city. The space was magnificent—a seamless fusion of historic red brickwork and modern, elegant glass structures, filling the interior with warm, natural light.
It was Olivia’s masterpiece.
With Julian’s unconditional support, Olivia had not only completed her degree with top honors, but she had also been given full creative freedom to direct her very first major architectural restoration project. The grand opening was scheduled for that evening.
Olivia stood in the center of the main atrium, wearing an elegant emerald-green silk dress, holding a tablet as she reviewed the final arrangements with the event coordinator. Her skin was radiant, her hair styled in soft, cascading waves. The timid, terrified waitress who used to flinch at her phone was gone, replaced by a confident, stunning woman who owned every room she walked into.
"The catering staff has arrived, Ms. Mercer," the coordinator reported politely. "And the floral arrangements are set."
"Thank you, Sarah. Everything looks perfect," Olivia smiled warmly.
Footsteps echoed across the polished marble floor. Olivia turned to see Julian walking toward her.
He was dressed in a tailored charcoal suit, looking impossibly handsome. As he reached her, he wrapped a long arm around her waist, pulling her close and pressing a soft kiss to her temple.
"You look breathtaking, mia cara," Julian whispered in his deep, resonant voice. "And this building... it is an absolute triumph."
"We did it," Olivia smiled, resting her hand against his crisp chest. "Thank you for believing in me when I didn't even believe in myself."
"I only gave you the canvas, Olivia," Julian said gently, looking around at the magnificent space. "The beauty was all yours."
Over the past six months, life had changed drastically. With the Falcone syndicate dismantled and Tyler Morrison gone, peace had finally settled over Julian’s organization. He had systematically transitioned much of his business into legitimate enterprises, real estate, and philanthropic foundations, driven by a desire to build a clean, bright world for the woman he loved.
"I have a surprise for you before the guests arrive," Julian said, a subtle, secretive smile touching his lips.
"Another surprise?" Olivia laughed softly. "Julian, you already funded the entire design center!"
"Come with me," he took her hand, leading her away from the main hall toward a private glass elevator that ascended to the top floor.
When the doors opened, Olivia caught her breath.
They stepped out onto a private rooftop garden overlooking the entire city. The space was filled with blooming white roses, soft fairy lights strung between wooden pergolas, and a path paved with white marble leading to a breathtaking glass pavilion.
In the center of the pavilion sat a small table set with two crystal glasses and a bottle of 2016 Barolo—the very wine she had served the night they met at Vincenzo’s.
"Julian... this is incredible," Olivia whispered, walking toward the glass edge, looking out at the glittering sunset skyline.
Julian stepped up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder. "Two years ago, you walked into my restaurant trying to disappear from the world. I promised myself that one day, I would give you a world where you would want to stand in the light."
He turned her around gently so she faced him.
Julian’s dark eyes were filled with an intense, unshakeable devotion. Slowly, deliberately, the man who commanded an empire dropped down onto one knee before her.
Olivia gasped, her hands flying to her mouth as tears instantly filled her eyes.
Julian produced a small, velvet box from his jacket, snapping it open to reveal a breathtaking, flawless three-carat oval diamond ring set in a delicate platinum band.
"Olivia Mercer," Julian spoke, his voice trembling slightly with rare emotion. "You brought light, grace, and love into a life that was surrounded by darkness. You are my strength, my heart, and my home. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"
The tears spilled over Olivia’s cheeks—not tears of pain or fear, but of absolute, unadulterated joy.

"Yes!" Olivia cried out softly, dropping to her knees beside him, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Yes, Julian! A thousand times yes!"
Julian let out a triumphant laugh, sliding the glittering ring onto her finger before pulling her into a passionate, breathtaking kiss under the golden glow of the setting sun.
