Chapter 2 - The Titan’s Counter-StrikeBy noon, Margaret Costa was sitting in her sunlit conservatory sipping Earl Grey tea, expecting her eldest son to come crawling back by nightfall. In her worldview, Daniel was a creature of duty, bound by the immense wealth and generational status she had spent decades engineering.

The heavy oak double doors of the conservatory swung open without a knock.

It wasn't Daniel. It was Marcus Vance, flanked by two armed security operatives in dark suits, followed by the estate’s bewildered financial controller.

“What is the meaning of this?” Margaret demanded, setting her porcelain teacup down with a sharp clatter that chipped the saucer. “Who gave you permission to enter this house?”

Marcus didn’t blink. He walked straight to the mahogany writing desk, placed a thick leather-bound dossier squarely in front of her, and flipped it open to a certified audit report.

“Good afternoon, Mrs. Costa,” Marcus said smoothly, his tone devoid of any warmth. “On behalf of Daniel Costa, I am serving you with an immediate administrative and legal freeze on all personal trust disbursements, corporate signatory rights, and joint-account access linked to your name and your son Lucas’s identifiers.”

Margaret’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. She stood up, her regal posture trembling with sudden, unadulterated fury. “You insolent little rat! You work for the Costa family! My husband built this empire from the ground up, and Daniel owes every breath he takes to me!”

“Your late husband built the empire, Mrs. Costa, but Daniel expanded it by four hundred percent over the last five years,” Marcus replied, leaning forward with a chilling smile. “Furthermore, our forensic audit has uncovered six hundred and eighty-four thousand dollars in unauthorized, fraudulent wire transfers executed from corporate operational reserves to personal offshore entities controlled by you and Lucas.”

Color drained instantly from Margaret’s face. For the first time, the impenetrable armor of her arrogance cracked.

“That’s… that’s absurd,” she stammered, her voice pitching slightly. “Family funds are interchangeable. A mother has a right to manage her household—”

“A mother has a right to manage her household,” Marcus interrupted, slamming the folder shut with a resounding thud, “until it crosses into criminal embezzlement, wire fraud, and falsification of corporate governance documents. The federal prosecutor’s office has already received copies of the preliminary findings. You have forty-eight hours to vacate the east wing of the estate, surrender your company keys, and return every cent of the misappropriated funds, or the indictments will become public record.”

Before Margaret could scream for her security guards, Marcus turned on his heel and walked out of the conservatory, leaving her standing alone in the silent, sunlit room, surrounded by an empire that was rapidly turning to ash.
