Chapter 3 - Unraveling the Web of DeceitLucas Costa was lounging by the infinity pool at a private club in downtown Manhattan when his phone buzzed incessantly with emergency notifications from his private banker.

He swiped open the banking app, expecting to see his monthly allowance of fifty thousand dollars deposited into his primary account. Instead, the screen flashed red: ACCOUNT FROZEN. PENDING LEGAL INVESTIGATION.
“What the hell is this?” Lucas muttered, sitting up sharply.
He dialed his mother’s private cell. It picked up on the first ring.
“Mom! What’s going on with the accounts? My cards just got declined at the Rolex boutique!” Lucas shouted over the ambient lounge music.
“Shut up, you idiot!” Margaret’s voice hissed through the speaker, trembling with rage and panic. “Daniel found out. That damn accountant from his firm served us with asset freezes an hour ago. He knows about the shell companies. He knows about your gambling debts!”
Lucas went cold. The phone felt suddenly heavy in his palm. “He… he can’t do that. We’re family! If he goes to the authorities, the press will pick it up. It’ll destroy the company’s stock value!”
“Daniel doesn’t care about the stock value anymore,” Margaret snarled. “He cares about her. That little nobody he married. Get back to the estate immediately. We need to call an emergency board meeting and outvote him before he does something catastrophic.”
“We can’t outvote him, Mom,” Lucas whispered, the terrifying reality finally sinking in. “Daniel owns fifty-one percent of the voting shares after the restructuring last year. If he wants us out, we’re out.”
A heavy, suffocating silence hung on the line before Margaret abruptly hung up.
Meanwhile, across town at The Carlyle penthouse, Daniel sat at the study desk reviewing the digital surveillance logs sent by his private security detail. Lucas was panicking, and Margaret was desperately attempting to contact the senior members of the board of directors—all of whom owed their current positions and loyalty to Daniel’s business acumen, not Margaret’s antiquated tyranny.
Elena walked into the study, wrapped in a soft cashmere robe, holding a warm cup of herbal tea. Her color had returned, and though her eyes still held the lingering shadow of trauma, the overwhelming terror had been replaced by a quiet, steady strength.
“You don’t have to destroy your entire family for me, Daniel,” Elena said softly, setting the tea down on the edge of the desk.
Daniel stood up, walked over to her, and gently wrapped his arms around her, careful of her swollen belly. He rested his chin on her head, inhaling the familiar scent of lavender and vanilla.
“They stopped being my family the moment they treated you like an animal in our own home,” Daniel murmured against her hair. “They chose greed and cruelty. I am choosing peace and protection. This isn't about destroying them, Elena. This is about ensuring they never have the power to hurt you—or our son—ever again.”

Elena looked up into his dark, fierce eyes, and for the first time since he had walked through the front doors of the estate two days ago, a genuine, beautiful smile touched her lips. She reached up and placed her hand against his cheek.
“Then let’s finish it,” she said.
