Chapter 5 - The Final TrapThe peace inside the Moretti mansion was short-lived.

Two weeks after the night in the library, a new shadow emerged from the highest corridors of power. It wasn't an underboss or a street gunman; it was a coalition of the remaining four syndicate bosses of New York, led by Don Carmine Falcone—the oldest and most ruthless mafia patriarch in the city.

Falcone had summoned an emergency council meeting of the Five Families at an isolated estate in upstate New York. The mandate was clear: Vincent Moretti was to appear before the council to account for the death of Dominic and the disruption of the city's contraband trade, or face an all-out war with the combined strength of the syndicate.

"It's a trap," Marco stated flatly in the mansion's tactical room. "Falcone knows he can't beat us in our territory. He wants you on neutral ground where his snipers control the perimeter."

"If I don't go, it legitimizes their war," Vincent said calmly, cleaning his glasses with a silk handkerchief. "They will frame me as a renegade who broke the commission's laws. My lieutenants will be targeted one by one."

"Then we take the whole army," Leo suggested, his face still showing light scars from his captivity.

"No," Anna spoke up, stepping forward with a leather-bound folder. "If you take an army, it becomes an instant massacre. You play right into Falcone’s hands. He wants a firefight so he can claim self-defense to the other families."

Vincent looked at her, an unspoken understanding passing between them. Over the past weeks, their bond had deepened into something indestructible. They were no longer just husband and wife on paper; they were partners in every sense of the word.

"What do you propose, Anna?" Vincent asked.

"We turn the council meeting into a corporate takeover," Anna said, opening her folder to reveal a series of legal deeds and financial instruments. "Falcone isn't attacking you because of Dominic, Vincent. He's attacking you because his own empire is collapsing under federal tax fraud investigations. He needs the Moretti shipping lines to launder his assets before the Treasury Department freezes them next month."

She placed a document in front of Vincent. "I spent the last forty-eight hours acquiring the primary mortgage debts on Falcone’s legitimate properties through three front corporations. You don't just own his debt, Vincent. As of eight o'clock this morning... you own his house."

Leo burst out laughing. "You bought Don Falcone's house?!"

"I bought his entire real estate portfolio," Anna corrected smoothly. "If he touches a hair on Vincent's head, I execute a immediate foreclosure seizure on every property, asset, and account tied to his family. He will be destitute before the sun sets."

Vincent stared at the documents, a slow, dark smirk spreading across his handsome face. He looked up at Anna, his grey eyes shining with pride and profound affection.

"You are truly terrifying, my love," Vincent murmured softly.

"I learned from the best," she replied with a soft smile.

That evening, a three-car convoy drove up the winding, snow-dusted driveway of Falcone’s sprawling estate in the Catskills.

Inside the grand dining hall, surrounded by twenty armed guards, sat the four elderly dons of the New York syndicate. Carmine Falcone sat at the head of the table, an old predator with cold, reptilian eyes.

The doors swung open, and Vincent was wheeled into the room by Anna. She walked beside him, elegant and poised in a tailored black suit, her head held high, looking every bit the queen of the underworld.

"Vincent," Falcone drawled, taking a sip of red wine. "You brought a woman to the High Commission? Have you lost your mind along with the use of your legs?"

The other dons chuckled darkly, the sound echoing through the cold room.

Vincent remained unfazed, stopping his chair at the foot of the long table. "I brought my wife, Carmine. Because unlike you, I know when to delegate real power."

Falcone’s smile vanished. "You killed Dominic. You disrupted the peace of this city. The commission has decided that the Moretti family must surrender fifty percent of its port holdings to make amends, or be purged from the syndicate."

"Is that so?" Vincent said softly. He signaled Anna.

Anna stepped forward, placing a thick stack of legal documents right in the center of the mahogany table, sliding them down toward Falcone.

"What is this nonsense?" Falcone sneered, glacing at the top page.

"That," Anna said, her voice clear and commanding, cutting through the heavy atmosphere, "is the deed of transfer for every asset tied to the Falcone estate, including the chair you are currently sitting in, Don Falcone."

Falcone’s face paled as he flipped through the pages, seeing his private banking signatures, his shell companies, and the official seal of the New York State Treasury.

"You... how did you get these?!" Falcone gasped, standing up so fast his chair scraped loudly against the marble floor.

"Your chief financial officer was surprisingly cooperative once I showed him the evidence of your secret offshore accounts," Anna said coolly. "As of ten minutes ago, the Moretti family holds a controlling interest in all Falcone enterprises. If any harm comes to my husband, or if any move is made against our family, these documents will be delivered directly to the Southern District Federal Prosecutor's office."

The other three dons immediately turned to look at Falcone, their eyes wide with shock and fury. They realized instantly that Falcone had led them into a trap of his own making, bringing them into a war with a family that held their financial throats in a vice grip.

"You snake..." Falcone hissed, reaching for the small pistol hidden inside his jacket.

Before he could clear his holster, Vincent’s arm shot out. Firing from his chair with lightning speed, he sent a single bullet through Falcone’s right shoulder, knocking the old man off his feet.

The armed guards in the room raised their weapons, but Marco and the Moretti tactical team breached the side entrances, lasers painting every guard's chest in red light.

"Stand down!" one of the other dons yelled, holding his hands up in panic. "Stand down! Falcone is done!"

Vincent rolled his chair closer to where Falcone lay bleeding on the floor. He leaned over, looking down at the fallen patriarch with absolute coldness.

"The commission is restructured as of tonight," Vincent said, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "The Moretti family takes Falcone’s seat. If any of you have an objection... speak now."

Silence reigned in the room. One by one, the remaining three dons bowed their heads in quiet submission.

Vincent turned his chair toward Anna, holding out his hand. This time, she took it without hesitation, her fingers lacing tightly through his.

"Let's go home, Anna," Vincent whispered gently. "We have a empire to run."
