Chapter 6 - A New DawnSix months later.

The summer sun shone brightly over the private estate gardens of the Moretti mansion. The scent of blooming white roses filled the warm air, blowing gently across the wide marble terrace that overlooked the Hudson River.

There were no gunshots, no blood on the rugs, and no shadows lurking in the hallways. The war was over. The five families had been consolidated under the unified, legitimate leadership of the Moretti Syndicate, transformed largely by Anna’s brilliance into one of the most powerful financial holding conglomerates on the East Coast.

On the terrace, a small, elegant gathering of close friends and loyal allies was taking place. Leo was laughing near the fountain, chatting animatedly with Marco about a new shipping route in Miami.

Anna stood near the balustrade, wearing a breathtaking cream silk dress that caught the gentle summer breeze. She held a glass of sparkling water, looking out over the sparkling river, a peaceful smile resting on her lips.

A soft, familiar sound announced his arrival.

Vincent rolled his chair up beside her, dressed in a sharp linen suit. The tension that had once permanently etched his face was gone, replaced by a deep, serene fulfillment.

"You're avoiding your guests, Mrs. Moretti," Vincent said softly, reaching out to wrap his large hand around hers.

Anna turned to look at him, her eyes soft with unconditional love. She leaned down, resting her arms on his shoulders, placing a soft, sweet kiss on his lips.

"I'm just taking a moment to appreciate the view," she whispered against his mouth. "And my husband."

Vincent pulled her closer, his arms strong and protective around her waist, drawing her onto his lap as he so often loved to do. "Your father called this morning," he mentioned casually, stroking her back.

Anna tensed slightly. "What did he want?"

"He wanted to thank me for allowing him to live comfortably in his retired estate in Europe," Vincent said with a dry, knowing smirk. "He also tried to give me advice on how to manage your temper."

Anna let out a bright, musical laugh, her head falling back against Vincent’s shoulder. "And what did you tell him?"

"I told him that my wife runs this empire alongside me," Vincent murmured, his voice thick with devotion. "And that if he ever called again with such nonsense, I would double his rent."

Anna smiled, resting her cheek against his temple, feeling the steady beat of his heart.

"When I first came here," Anna said quietly, looking down into his dark eyes, "I thought I was walking into a prison. I thought a man who ruled with iron and blood would see me as nothing more than a bargaining chip."

Vincent reached up, his thumb gently caressing her cheek. "And now?"

"Now I know that you are the strongest, bravest, and most honorable man I have ever known," she said fiercely, tears of happiness brimming in her eyes. "You gave me my freedom, Vincent. And I chose you."

Vincent’s gaze softened completely, the fearsome mob boss disappearing entirely, leaving behind only the man who loved her with every fiber of his being.

"I used to think my life ended the day I lost the use of my legs," Vincent confessed softly, holding her tightly against his heart. "I thought I was condemned to be a ghost in my own house, fighting off wolves until my time ran out. But then you walked through my front door, Anna. With your silver letter opener and your fierce, beautiful soul."

He pulled her down into a deep, passionate kiss that tasted of sweet wine and endless promises. When they finally broke apart, Vincent pressed his forehead against hers, his eyes shining with profound happiness.

"You didn't just save my empire, Anna," Vincent whispered, his voice trembling with emotion. "You gave me my life back."

Anna wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, holding onto the man who had proven to her, and to the entire world, that true strength lies not in the legs that carry a man, but in the heart and soul that drive him forward.

"We built this life together, Vincent," Anna whispered, kissing his jaw as the afternoon sun bathed them in warm, golden light. "And nothing in this world will ever tear us apart."
