Chapter 6 - The Sovereign's Vow

At 10:00 AM, the boardroom on the 60th floor of the Vale Capital Tower in Midtown Manhattan was a battleground.

Fourteen board members sat around a forty-foot mahogany table, surrounding Marcus Vale—a slick, sixty-year-old man in an expensive suit, holding a leather binder containing forged financial ledgers and private investigator reports.

"Ethan has lost his mind!" Marcus boomed to the nervous board members. "He is risking our entire stock valuation over a nobody from Brooklyn! He transferred twenty million dollars into a private offshore medical trust three days ago without board authorization! He is compromised!"

The heavy double doors of the boardroom crashed open.

Ethan Vale walked in.

He was accompanied by two senior federal prosecutors from the Southern District of New York and six armed federal marshals.

The room went dead quiet. Marcus Vale’s face drained of color as he scrambled to his feet. "Ethan! What is the meaning of this intrusion? This is a private executive session—"

"Sit down, Marcus," Ethan said softly. He didn't raise his voice, but the sheer weight of his presence made three board members instantly drop into their chairs.

Ethan walked to the head of the table, tossing a thick black leather folder onto the glass surface.

"The twenty million dollar transfer my uncle just referenced was an authorized acquisition of MedTech Global," Ethan announced smoothly, looking around the room at the pale faces of his investors. "An acquisition that secured the exclusive patent rights to a revolutionary non-invasive surgical tool—a deal that increased Vale Capital’s net worth by eight hundred million dollars as of 9:00 AM today."

The board members gasped, whispering frantically among themselves.

"Furthermore," Ethan continued, stepping closer to his trembling uncle, "while Marcus was busy paying illegal private investigators to invade the privacy of my personal residence and leak unauthorized photos to news networks, my legal team was finalizing a four-year investigation into his personal accounts."

Ethan tapped the black folder.

"Inside that dossier is complete evidence of Marcus Vale embezzling seventy-five million dollars from our European pension fund over the last six years, using shell companies registered in the Cayman Islands."

Marcus stumbled backward, his knees knocking against his chair. "That's... that's a lie! You forged those documents!"

"Assistant U.S. Attorney Vance is standing right behind me, Marcus," Ethan said, his gray eyes cold enough to freeze blood. "They have already frozen your accounts. Your arrest warrant was signed thirty minutes ago."

Two federal marshals stepped forward, grabbing Marcus by his arms and forcing his hands behind his back. The cold snap of metal handcuffs echoed loudly across the silent boardroom.

"Ethan! Please! I'm your family!" Marcus screamed as he was dragged toward the door. "You can't do this to your own blood!"

Ethan didn't even turn around to watch him leave. He adjusted his cufflinks, took his seat at the head of the boardroom table, and looked around at the thirteen terrified board members.

"Now," Ethan said calmly. "Let us begin today's agenda."

Four hours later.

The sunset over Tribeca was a brilliant display of purple, pink, and gold.

Maya stood on the private terrace of the penthouse, the cool evening air blowing her dark hair across her shoulders. The news reports had already shifted dramatically—Marcus Vale’s arrest was trending globally, while Vale Capital’s stock had soared to an all-time high following the announcement of Ethan’s latest acquisition.

Her name had been completely scrubbed from every news outlet by Ethan’s public relations army.

Footsteps sounded behind her on the hardwood floor.

Maya turned. Ethan stood in the doorway of the terrace. He had discarded his suit jacket and tie, his shirt unbuttoned at the collar. He looked tired, but when his eyes found hers, every trace of stress vanished from his face.

He walked over to her, pulling her gently against his chest. Maya wrapped her arms around his waist, burying her face into his neck, soaking in his warmth.

"It's over," Ethan whispered, kissing the top of her head. "Marcus will spend the next fifteen years in a federal prison. No one will ever threaten you again, Maya."

Maya looked up into his gray eyes, touching his cheek. "I watched the news conference, Ethan. I saw what you did."

"Are you afraid of me?" he asked softly, a rare flicker of vulnerability touching his eyes.

"No," Maya answered without a second of hesitation. "I know who you are. You're the man who caught me when I fell."

Ethan reached into his pocket. He pulled out a small, velvet box and opened it.

Inside sat an exquisite, ten-carat emerald-cut diamond ring, sparkling brilliantly under the fading golden light of the Manhattan sunset.

Maya’s breath hitched in her throat. Her hands flew to her mouth.

Ethan dropped to one knee on the hardwood terrace floor, looking up at her with the devotion of a man who had conquered the world just to lay it at her feet.

"Three years ago, I failed to protect you," Ethan said, his voice deep, strong, and unwavering. "I spent three years living in the dark, searching for the light I lost on that rainy street. Last night, you gave me your trust, your heart, and your future."

He reached out, taking her trembling hand in his.

"Maya Lin... will you give me the rest of your life? Will you be my wife?"

Tears of pure, overwhelming happiness spilled over Maya’s eyelashes, washing away every ghost of her painful past. She sank to her knees right in front of him, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck, pulling him into a kiss that tasted of promises, forever, and absolute love.

"Yes," Maya sobbed softly against his lips. "Yes, Ethan... a thousand times yes."

May you like

Ethan slid the diamond ring onto her finger, sealing their souls together. As the city lights of Manhattan flickered to life all around them, illuminating the night like a billion stars, the billionaire who had never lost control held the woman who had saved his soul, knowing that he had finally won the only deal that ever truly mattered.

The End
