Chapter 5 - The Legal Injunction

Over the next three months, the systematic dismantling of Victor and Evelyn's life was executed with surgical precision. A forensic audit of Vance Logistics revealed years of corporate tax evasion, payroll fraud, and systematic embezzlement from the trust fund my biological father had left for me.

My grandfather’s legal team filed criminal charges for grand larceny, identity theft, and child endangerment. Because the video from the porch security camera had been successfully preserved, the local district attorney had absolute, undeniable proof of the domestic assault.

Victor was denied bail due to being a flight risk after he attempted to buy a one-way ticket to a non-extradition country using a forged credit card. He sat in a county jail cell, his corporate empire completely vanished, swallowed whole by Vale Holdings and rebranded as Elena Logistics Systems.

My mother, stripped of her wealth and facing potential prison time as an co-conspirator to the financial fraud, spent her days in a small, state-appointed apartment, her former high-society friends completely blocking her calls. She sent me dozens of letters, begging for forgiveness, claiming she was a victim of Victor's manipulation.

I never opened a single one. I had learned the hard way that an apology born out of poverty is rarely an apology born out of genuine regret.

Meanwhile, my life began anew. I arrived at Harrington University not as a struggling scholarship student with a bruised face, but as the guest of honor. My grandfather had funded a state-of-the-art digital design laboratory in the engineering department, named the Arthur Hale Memorial Wing.

I spent my days surrounded by brilliant minds, my laptop filled with complex architectural blueprints and advanced structural designs. I wore plain clothes because I chose to, not because I couldn't afford better. I spent my weekends at the penthouse with my grandfather, learning the intricacies of global commerce and family governance.

"You're a natural, Elena," Alexander said one evening as we reviewed the quarterly reports for the family's real estate division. "You have your father’s analytical mind and your grandmother’s vision. The family name is safe with you."

"I just needed a foundation, Grandfather," I said, looking out at the city lights. "I just needed someone to hear me when I said no."

"A Vale doesn't just say no, my dear," he smiled, patting my hand. "A Vale decides what the answer is going to be."
