Chapter 5 - The Reckoning

On the security monitors inside the vault, Lena watched the terrifying climax unfold in real-time.

Julian Moretti had come personally, believing that cutting the power and bringing twelve heavily armed mercenaries would be enough to catch Victor Vance off guard.

He was wrong.

Victor didn't fight like a man defending a house; he fought like a demon protecting his sanctuary.

Joined by Marcus and eight elite security officers, Victor executed a brilliant tactical counter-ambush in the grand foyer. Using the dark hallways he knew intimately, Victor systematically disarmed and neutralized Moretti’s squad within fifteen minutes.

On monitor three, Lena watched as the heavy front oak doors were kicked open by federal tactical officers led by the District Attorney himself—who had arrived with a federal warrant not for Victor, but for Julian Moretti.

It turned out Victor’s two sleepless nights in his study hadn't been spent hiding; they had been spent leaking Moretti’s encrypted offshore accounts directly to the Department of Justice, exposing thirty years of murder, extortion, and the precise evidence that proved Moretti had ordered the hit on Daniel Ward.

On the central monitor, Julian Moretti was forced to his knees on the wet gravel driveway, handcuffed and dragged away into a federal transport van.

The siege was over.

Twenty minutes later, the pneumatic locks on the heavy vault door hissed open.

The steel door swung wide.

Victor stood in the doorway. His tactical vest was scorched, his crisp black shirt torn at the shoulder, blood dripping from a minor scrape on his cheekbone. But he was standing tall, his dark eyes clear, peaceful, and fixated entirely on Lena.

Lena didn't say a word. She didn't care about the blood or the dirt. She threw herself out of the chair and ran across the room, hurling her arms around his neck with all her strength.

Victor caught her easily, lifting her off her feet, his arms wrapping around her waist, burying his face in the crook of her neck as he held her tightly against his beating heart.

"It's over, Lena," Victor whispered, his voice rough and thick with emotion. "It's completely over. Moretti is going away for the rest of his life. Daniel's name is cleared... and you are free."

Lena pulled back slightly, looking at his bleeding cheek, her tears streaming down her smiling face. She gently reached up, pressing her hand against his scar.

"I don't want to be free from you, Victor," Lena whispered softly, her voice grounded and absolute. "I want to stay right here."

Victor stared at her, his dark eyes shining with a profound, quiet joy. He pulled her close again, kissing her deeply, fiercely, while behind them on the sofa, Ellie let out a cheerful gurgle and rattled her yellow toy against the leather cushion.
