Chapter 5 - The Boardroom TrapThe morning sun filtered through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the executive boardroom on the forty-second floor of Vale Tower, casting long, sharp shadows across the polished mahogany table.

Ten board members sat in absolute silence. The atmosphere was thick with tension. Rumors of an emergency restructuring had swept through the financial district before the markets even opened.

At the head of the table sat Alexander Vale. He wore a crisp charcoal suit, his posture rigid, his face carved from marble. To his immediate right sat Marcus, stationed near the door like a silent sentinel.

Three seats down, Victor Vance adjusted his silk tie, attempting to project an aura of calm confidence. But a slight tremor in his left hand betrayed his nerves.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Alexander began, his deep voice carrying effortlessly across the cavernous room. "I called this emergency session to address a matter of critical national and corporate security. Over the past seventy-two hours, my personal life has been violently intruded upon by individuals who believe they can use my family as leverage against my business interests."

A murmur rippled through the board members. Several people exchanged uneasy glances.

Victor forced a thin, polite smile. "An unfortunate incident, no doubt, Alexander. But surely personal matters are best handled by law enforcement rather than halting corporate operations."

"Law enforcement is already involved, Victor," Alexander replied, locking his eyes directly onto his compliance director. "In fact, the FBI's financial crimes unit is currently executing a search warrant on your private residence in Tribeca as we speak."

Victor’s face went instantly pale. The smile vanished. "That... that is absurd! You have no grounds—"

"I have a signed ledger, recovered from a storage unit downtown, detailing every single unauthorized wire transfer executed through your brother Julian's offshore accounts," Alexander interrupted, standing up slowly and resting his knuckles on the table. "I have the IP logs proving that you accessed my private schedule and tracked my movements. And most importantly..."

Alexander leaned forward, his voice dropping to a terrifying, measured cadence.

"...I have the security footage of you hiring a private operative to track a woman and a six-year-old girl through the streets of Manhattan last Thursday."

The silence in the boardroom was absolute. You could hear the faint hum of the air conditioning units in the ceiling.

Panic flashed in Victor’s eyes. Realizing he had been utterly outmaneuvered, his mask of corporate composure cracked completely. He shoved his chair back, standing up abruptly.

"You think you're untouchable, don't you?!" Victor screamed, his voice echoing off the glass walls. "You crushed my brother's career! You locked him out of his own empire, left him with nothing while you sat on your throne of gold! This company should have belonged to us!"

Before Victor could reach into his jacket pocket, Marcus moved with blinding speed. He vaulted across the table, tackling Victor to the floor and pinning his arms behind his back in a matter of seconds.

Marcus reached into Victor's coat and pulled out a heavy, loaded Beretta semi-automatic pistol, tossing it across the mahogany table.

Two armed security guards rushed through the double doors, restraining Victor as he thrashed and cursed against the carpet.

"Take him to the basement holding facility," Alexander ordered coldly, not even blinking as he looked down at his former compliance director. "Hand him over to federal authorities when they arrive. Tell them I want every charge pressed to the maximum extent of the law."

As Victor was dragged kicking and screaming out of the boardroom, the remaining directors sat paralyzed, staring at Alexander in awe and terror.

Alexander straightened his cuffs, sat back down at the head of the table, and looked around the room.

"Meeting adjourned," he said quietly.
