CHAPTER 3 — The Turning Point (Short Version)

At breakfast, Caleb acted like nothing had happened, smiling and pretending the night before was normal.

But the atmosphere had changed. Mia barely spoke and avoided his gaze.

I placed my phone on the table. The recording was still there.

Caleb tried to dismiss it. “No need to involve outsiders.”

I replied, “I already did.”

His confidence slipped.

Mia finally spoke, quietly but firmly: “I don’t want this anymore.”

Caleb tried to control her again, but she didn’t back down.

For the first time, she chose herself.

I stood up with the baby and said, “This ends today.”

Caleb had no answer.


ENDING

Mia left with me and her son.

No shouting. No chaos.

Just distance from something that no longer had power over her.

And for the first time, she felt safe again.
