Chapter 6 - The Promise of TomorrowThe aftermath was a blur of sirens, FBI raids, and the long, slow process of healing. The Architects were dismantled, their names splashed across every front page in the country. The children, those who had been stolen and those who had been used as experiments, were finally being reunited with their families.

Six months later.

The Blackwood estate—once a place of cold shadows—was filled with the sounds of children. Leo, now healthy and active, was learning to run on the sprawling lawns, his heart strong and beating with the rhythm of a normal life. The baby, Angelo, was growing rapidly, a constant, happy reminder of the life they had reclaimed from the darkness.

Dominic stood on the veranda, watching Sophie as she knelt in the grass, laughing as she chased the boys. He had traded his life of cold, calculated dominance for something much more complicated and much more fragile: a family.

Sophie looked up, catching his eye. She stood, brushing the grass from her dress, and walked toward him. She didn't feel like a waitress anymore. She didn't feel like a victim. She felt like a mother who had gone through hell and brought her world back with her.

"They're finally sleeping," she said, leaning against his shoulder.

Dominic reached out, taking her hand. He kissed her forehead, his lips lingering there.

"We won, Sophie," he whispered.

"No," she said, looking out at the sunset over the city. "We just started."

They stood together, two survivors of a war that had tried to steal their souls, watching the horizon. The city was still dangerous, and there were always shadows, but inside the fortress they had built, there was only the steady, beautiful sound of a family living. And for the first time, Dominic Moretti didn't need to be the most feared man in Chicago; he just needed to be the man who came home to them.
