Chapter 5 - A Realm Restored

Three months passed.

The dark clouds that had hung over the Moretti estate for four years completely vanished, replaced by an era of peace and unprecedented transformation.

The Romano empire had been completely liquidated. The stolen shipping ports were restored to legitimate trade, and the traitors who had plagued the Five Families were purged.

Inside the estate, the cold, silent mausoleum had turned into a home full of life.

I no longer wore a black housekeeper’s uniform.

On a bright, sunny Tuesday afternoon, I stood in the master suite dressing room, wearing a soft cream cashmere sweater and tailored trousers. My dark hair was styled loosely over my shoulders, and for the first time in three years, the exhaustion in my eyes was gone, replaced by a radiant, healthy glow.

Down in the courtyard, the sound of happy laughter echoed through the open windows.

I stepped out onto the balcony overlooking the manicured gardens.

Below, the most feared mob boss in New York was sitting on the green grass.

Alessandro had removed his suit jacket, his white shirt sleeves rolled up, revealing his tattooed forearms. He was sitting cross-legged on a blanket, playing with Emma.

Emma was dressed in a beautiful, tailor-made pale pink silk dress that Alessandro had commissioned from an Italian designer. It was custom-fitted, adorned with real pearl buttons, yet designed with soft puff sleeves—exactly like her old six-dollar thrift-store outfit.

And in her lap sat Mr. Bunny, his torn ear carefully stitched back together with silver silk thread by Alessandro himself.

“Look, Mommy!” Emma called out, spotting me on the balcony. She held up a small yellow toy car. “Alessandro built a castle for Mr. Bunny!”

Alessandro looked up at me.

The harsh, ruthless Don who commanded armies of soldiers looked completely relaxed, a warm, genuine smile lighting up his handsome face. The dark shadows that had haunted his eyes for years had completely melted away.

“Come down, Clara!” Alessandro called out, his deep voice rich with affection. “The tea is getting cold!”

I smiled, my heart fluttering as I walked down the grand marble staircase.

When I reached the garden, Alessandro stood up, catching my waist with his arm and pulling me against his broad chest. He didn't care that his security guards were standing fifty feet away along the perimeter wall. He leaned down and pressed a deep, lingering kiss to my lips.

The kiss was warm, passionate, and filled with a quiet promise that made my knees go weak.

“You look breathtaking,” Alessandro murmured against my ear, his hand gently resting on my hip.

“You’re getting mud on your expensive trousers,” I teased softly, resting my hands against his chest.

“I don't care about the trousers,” Alessandro chuckled, his dark eyes searching my face with deep devotion. “I only care about you.”

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box.

My breath caught in my throat.

Alessandro dropped to one knee on the green lawn.

Emma clapped her small hands, squealing in delight as she sat on the blanket with Mr. Bunny.

“Clara,” Alessandro said, his deep voice trembling slightly with raw emotion. “Three months ago, you walked into my ballroom carrying your daughter, terrified of a world that had been cruel to you. You brought truth back to my life. You brought healing to my heart. You showed me what real love looks like.”

He opened the velvet box.

Inside sat a breathtaking solitaire diamond ring—simple, elegant, and entirely unpolluted by the arrogance of the Romano family. It shone like a star in the afternoon sunlight.

“I don't want to just protect you, Clara,” Alessandro whispered, looking up into my tear-filled eyes. “I want to spend the rest of my life making sure you and Emma are loved, cherished, and honored as the queens of this house. Will you marry me?”

Tears of pure, overwhelming happiness spilled down my cheeks. I dropped to my knees beside him, wrapping my arms around his broad neck, burying my face in his shoulder.

“Yes,” I sobbed happily. “Yes, Alessandro! A thousand times yes!”

May you like

Alessandro wrapped his powerful arms around me, pulling me tight against his heart, while Emma giggled and threw her small arms around both of us, joining our embrace.

Under the bright blue New York sky, the dark shadows of the past were forever erased.
