Chapter 6 - The Golden Crown of Love

One year later.

The Moretti estate was bathed in golden summer light.

The grand ballroom, once a place of cold, arrogant high-society gatherings, was filled with the scents of blooming white roses, lavender, and sweet vanilla. Soft classical music drifted through the open terrace doors, carried by a gentle breeze from the Atlantic.

Today was the wedding of Alessandro Moretti and Clara Vance.

Two hundred guests filled the room—not just powerful capos and syndicate bosses, but ordinary people: the staff who worked at the estate, Clara’s old friends from her working-class neighborhood, and community leaders whose charities Alessandro now funded.

The dark Mafia empire had been transformed. Alessandro had systematically dismantled his illegal operations, transitioning his vast wealth into legitimate global shipping, real estate, and philanthropy.

At the altar stood Alessandro.

Dressed in an impeccably tailored black velvet tuxedo, he looked like a king. But his eyes were focused entirely on the heavy oak doors at the back of the room.

The violins shifted into a triumphant, breathtaking melody.

The doors swung open.

First walked Emma.

Four years old now, she looked like a little angel in a white lace flower-girl dress, her chestnut curls falling around her face. She held a small basket of pink rose petals in one hand, and in her other hand, she proudly carried Mr. Bunny, who now wore a tiny black bow tie around his neck to match Alessandro’s.

Emma tossed rose petals across the white aisle, smiling brightly at the guests who looked at her with pure affection.

And then, I stepped into the room.

A collective gasp rippled through the audience.

I wore a custom ivory silk gown designed with an off-the-shoulder neckline and a long, sweeping train embellished with delicate pearl embroidery. My hair was styled in an intricate updo crowned with a thin band of small, brilliant diamonds.

I didn't look like a woman who had once scrubbed floors or wept in a Goodwill aisle over a six-dollar dress.

I looked like the bride of the most powerful man in the city.

As I walked down the aisle, my eyes locked onto Alessandro’s.

I saw tears shining in his dark eyes—tears of awe, devotion, and absolute, unconditional love.

When I reached the altar, Alessandro took my hands in his. His large fingers were warm, steady, and trembling slightly as he looked down at me.

“You take my breath away,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

“You gave me my life back,” I whispered in response.

The ceremony was breathtakingly beautiful. When the priest asked for the rings, Emma stepped forward proudly, handing the small velvet box to Alessandro.

Alessandro slipped the golden band onto my finger, looking into my eyes with a solemn, fierce vow. “With this ring, I give you my heart, my life, and my empire. I promise to protect you, honor you, and love you until my last breath.”

I slipped the matching gold band onto his finger. “With this ring, I give you my heart, my soul, and my eternal love. I promise to stand beside you, through every storm, forever.”

“By the power vested in me,” the priest declared, smiling, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”

Alessandro didn't hesitate.

He pulled me into his arms, dipping me slightly as his lips met mine in a deep, passionate, breathtaking kiss that brought the entire room to its feet in thunderous applause.

Cheers echoed across the high marble ceilings. Capos, maids, cooks, and guests cheered together as Alessandro lifted me back up, wrapping his arm securely around my waist.

He reached down with his free hand, scooping Emma up into his arm.

Together, the three of us stood at the altar, looking out at the sunlit ballroom.

Emma leaned over, kissing Alessandro’s cheek, then kissed mine. “We’re a real family now, Mommy!”

“Yes, baby,” I whispered, pressing my forehead against hers, tears of pure joy leaking from my eyes. “We’re a real family.”

Alessandro wrapped his powerful arm around both of us, pulling us close against his chest.

He looked at me, his dark eyes burning with a fierce, eternal light that promised safety, warmth, and endless love for all the days of our lives.

“No more cheap dresses,” Alessandro murmured softly against my lips, a warm, handsome smile breaking across his face. “Only crowns for my queens.”

And as the violins played a triumphant finale under the golden chandeliers, the cold house of stone became what it was always meant to be: a home built on truth, protected by strength, and crowned with everlasting love.
