Part 3: The Shadow of Justice

For the next forty-eight hours, the city of Dallas became a tactical chessboard. Alexander used every ounce of his massive financial influence to systematically isolate the Robles family. He bought out the outstanding debt notes that Carmen owed to her offshore creditors, becoming her primary, sole lender. With a single stroke of a pen, Alexander now owned her house, her cars, her jewelry, and the very air she breathed.
Meanwhile, Sofia lay in the secure wing of the hospital, surrounded by her mother and a team of the best trauma specialists in the state. Her physical wounds were healing—the swelling on her cheek had gone down, and her split lip was stitched neatly—but the psychological scars ran deep. Every time a door opened too quickly, she flinched.
Elena sat by her bedside, holding her hand, wiping away the tears that fell silently down Sofia's face. "You are safe here, Sofia. They can never hurt you again."
"I was so stupid, Mom," Sofia whispered, her voice trembling. "I believed him. I thought he loved me. I thought you were just being overprotective because of what happened between you and Dad."
Elena felt a pang of guilt in her heart. She looked up as the door opened softly, and Alexander stepped inside. The ruthless, cold billionaire who had spent the last two days destroying a family's financial existence instantly melted when he looked at his daughter. He carried a small, velvet box in his hand.
"How is my brave girl?" Alexander asked softly, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Dad... thank you," Sofia said, tears welling up again. "I'm sorry I didn't listen to you or Mom."
"Look at me, Sofia," Alexander said firmly but gently. "You have nothing to apologize for. Predators are skilled at wearing masks. Javier and his mother are monsters who prey on innocent hearts. But they made one fatal mistake: they forgot who your family is."
He opened the velvet box, revealing a pristine, golden key. "The Uptown condo is secure. The deed has been legally locked under an unassailable family trust. But more importantly, Carmen’s accomplices—the six women who helped her hold you down—have all been arrested. They were rounded up this morning in North Dallas. When faced with federal extortion charges, they broke. Every single one of them has signed an affidavit turning state’s evidence against Carmen and Javier."
Elena gasped softly. "They confessed?"
"They had no choice," Alexander said, a dark smile touching his lips. "I offered them a choice: cooperate and face probation, or protect Carmen and spend the next two decades in a federal prison. People like that have no loyalty. Carmen is currently sitting in a holding cell at the Dallas County Jail, unable to post bail because all her assets have been frozen and seized by my legal team."

"And Javier?" Sofia asked, her voice a mix of fear and hatred.
"Javier is trying to run," Alexander replied, his eyes narrowing. "He thinks he can use his legal connections to cross the border into Mexico. But I’ve already placed a private security perimeter around him. He won't make it past the state line."
