Six months later, the high-profile trial of State of Texas v. Carmen Robles and Javier Robles commenced at the Dallas County Courthouse. The courtroom was packed with journalists, socialites, and public onlookers, all eager to witness the final destruction of the predatory family.
Sofia sat at the prosecution table, flanked by her mother Elena and her father Alexander. She was no longer the trembling girl in the torn wedding dress. She wore a tailored navy blue suit, her hair pulled back neatly, her eyes clear, steady, and filled with an unbreakable resolve.
When Carmen was led into the courtroom in a standard orange inmate jumpsuit, her hair graying and her face haggard without her expensive makeup, she refused to look at the gallery. Javier followed behind her, handcuffed and shackled, his posture defeated, his eyes fixed firmly on the floor.
The prosecution presented an airtight, devastating case. The smart-hub audio recordings from the hotel suite were played aloud for the jury. The sound of Carmen’s voice, screaming venomous insults while demanding the condo deed, followed by the sickening sound of physical blows, echoed through the silent courtroom. Elena held Sofia’s hand tightly, while Alexander sat behind them, his presence alone projecting an aura of absolute dominance over the defense.
When it was Sofia's turn to take the stand, the defense attorney attempted to cross-examine her, trying to suggest that she had entered the marriage with fraudulent intentions regarding the Robles family assets.
Sofia looked directly at the jury, her voice ringing clear through the microphone. "I married Javier because I loved him and believed we were building a future based on trust. I kept my property in my name because it was a gift from my father, a symbol of my family's protection. They did not want a wife; they wanted an asset to liquidate. When I said no, they didn't just try to break my body—they tried to erase my dignity. But they failed."
The jury deliberated for less than two hours.
The verdict was unanimous: Guilty on all counts.
