Chapter 5 - Rebuilding from the AshesSix months later, the spring sun was shining brightly over San Pedro Garza García, bringing warmth and color back to the manicured lawns of the upscale neighborhood.

However, the real action wasn't happening in the country clubs; it was thriving on the sprawling industrial lands of Santa Catarina.
Where once there had been dusty, neglected brush and abandoned warehouses, heavy machinery now hummed with productive energy. Doña Elena Morales, flanked by her granddaughter Sofía and attorney Daniel Álvarez, stood on a freshly poured concrete foundation, wearing a hard hat and holding a golden ceremonial shovel.
"Are you sure you want to go through with this, Grandma?" Sofía asked with a proud smile, adjusting her own hard hat. "You could easily sell these lots right now for a hundred and fifty million pesos and retire on a private island in the Caribbean."
Elena looked out over the sprawling development site, where construction crews were laying the groundwork for a massive, modern community center, a public technical training institute, and affordable housing complexes designed for working-class families in Monterrey.
"Retire on an island?" Elena chuckled, shaking her head. "And do what? Sit on a beach and watch the waves? Your grandfather bought these lands so they would serve a purpose, Sofía. Not to sit idle in a vault, and certainly not to finance luxury sports cars for ungrateful sons."
She turned her gaze toward the northern edge of the property, where a sleek, modern corporate office building was already half-finished.
"We are establishing the Mateo and Elena Morales Foundation," Elena announced, her voice ringing with strength and clarity. "This center will provide vocational training for young people, legal and financial aid for elderly citizens facing family exploitation, and community resources for those who need a hand up, not a handout."
Sofía wrapped her arms around her grandmother’s shoulders, feeling an overwhelming surge of love and admiration. "Grandpa would be so proud of you."
"He’d probably tell me I’m being too soft," Elena laughed warmly.

As for Rogelio, the legal hammer had fallen hard. Stripped of his wealth, abandoned by his high-society associates, and facing a federal trial for financial fraud and elder abuse, he was currently awaiting sentencing in a downtown detention facility—a far cry from the luxurious semi-basement he had condemned his mother to inhabit. Marisol had filed for divorce and permanently relocated out of state, washing her hands of the wreckage.
Karma had collected its debt in full.
