Chapter 6 - The New HorizonSix months later.

The sun was shining on the Mediterranean coast, a stark contrast to the gray, rain-slicked cemetery in New York. I sat on a terrace overlooking the sea, my hair finally growing back, my health slowly but surely returning under the watchful eye of a doctor I actually trusted.
The legal battle had been long, but I had won. Grant was serving a life sentence for his roles in conspiracy to commit murder and financial fraud. Tessa Lane was serving ten years for her part in the scheme. They had gotten exactly what they deserved—a life of silence and stone walls, far away from the world they had tried to steal.
Jenna walked out onto the terrace, holding two glasses of cold, sparkling water.
"The firm just sent over the final documents," she said, handing me a glass. "Everything is clear. You’re legally, officially, and permanently alive."
I took the glass and looked out at the horizon. "It feels strange. To be a person with no past."
"You have a future," Jenna said. "That’s better."
I smiled. It was the first honest smile I had felt in years. I didn't think about the ivory dress, or the lilies, or the whisper in the cathedral. I thought about the waves crashing against the rocks below—constant, powerful, and unstoppable.

I had been a woman who was supposed to fade away, a woman who was supposed to be buried by a husband who didn't care. Instead, I was a woman who had walked through the fire, out of the grave, and into the sun.
The story didn't end with a funeral. It ended with a beginning. And for the first time in my life, the path ahead was entirely my own.
