Chapter 5 - The Courtroom ShowdownTwo weeks later, the federal district courtroom in downtown Seattle was packed with quiet tension. Savannah walked through the double doors wearing a sharp, charcoal-gray tailored pantsuit, her posture completely unshakeable. The red welt on her cheek had faded into a faint pink trace, serving as a permanent reminder of the day she took her life back.

At the defendant's table sat Christopher. He looked ten years older. His designer suit was replaced by a standard orange detention jumpsuit, his hair uncombed, his eyes bloodshot and hollow. He didn't dare look up as Savannah took a seat in the front row alongside her corporate legal team and Sergeant Miller, who was present to testify regarding the domestic assault and body-cam footage.
When the judge entered and gavel struck, the proceedings moved with ruthless efficiency.
Christopher’s new attorney attempted a desperate plea of diminished capacity and financial misunderstanding, arguing that the debts were accumulated under marital duress. But Savannah’s legal team systematically dismantled every claim with irrefutable paper trails, bank logs, email confessions, and notarized asset forfeiture documents.
The judge reviewed the final packet, looking down over his spectacles with severe disapproval at Christopher.
"Mr. Huxley, the evidence presented demonstrates a calculated, multi-year pattern of corporate fraud, asset misappropriation, forgery, and domestic violence," the judge announced, his voice echoing across the silent courtroom. "You have systematically abused legal trusts and exploited your spouse's financial standing for illicit personal enrichment."
Christopher buried his face in his cuffed hands, his shoulders shaking with silent, desperate panic.
"I sentence the defendant to eight years in federal penitentiary, with no eligibility for parole for the first five years, alongside full court-mandated restitution totaling nine hundred and forty thousand dollars, drawn from all remaining hidden assets and estate liquidations."

Bang.
The gavel fell. Christopher was led away by federal marshals, his downward spiral complete. He had wanted luxury, status, and power without ever doing a single day of honest work. In the end, he had lost everything.
